    I think this could save the EU. Harrison is in his 70s. (He was in his 30s during OT) 40 years later. We might just see EU surviving.

    I have great hope that the the EU indeed might survive if the age of the original actors is any indication to where the films will take place.

    I still stand by my statement that if the intent was to kill off the EU, they'd stop publishing it now (And especially not publish things like Crucible and the new Legacy). Though I admit that a lot of uncertainties remain.

    Still, seeing the Big 3 on screen again would quite honestly mean a lot...

    Respectfully, your statement is insane and has no connection to reality. [face_whistling]

    Very true, but I'd suggest keeping it to yourself so as not to scare the newbies. :p

    Does the Harrison Ford casting rumour really mean anything for the EU? I think most people have been working off the assumption that the films would be set at least 30 or 40 years after RotJ.

    If anything Harrison Ford's presence makes it more likely the EU will be messed with. Like if Han's been missing for 20 years. Or if he and Leia have three daughters.

    Hmm, good point.

    The future of the EU is assured! No reason to panic! [face_party]

    This is great news, and makes it even more likely that the EU will survive!! :D

    EDIT:

    John Williams says he's really looking forward to return for the Sequel Trilogy:

    Again, why? I'm not trolling, I just don't see why this announcement makes the EU's continuation any more likely.

    Because this makes it very likely that the Sequel Trilogy will be set after FOTJ, around 40-50 years after the movies.

    If we just got confirmed that some 25-year-old actor would be playing Han Solo in the Sequel Trilogy, then it would definitely be all over.

    All things being equal, a ST subsequent to Crucible is far, far more likely to retain the EU than one in, say, 19 ABY - which, mind, is the size of the other trilogy gap. "Far more likely" is a relative term, of course--say 20% instead of 4%--but it's certainly not bad news.

    I think the mainstream Marvel universe recently set the standard for this kind of thing when they pulled a black Nick Fury out of their asses to better mirror the movie universe. :oops:

    Well if a 25-year-old was playing Han, we'd be looking at Episode 3.5. :p

    I just had a thought: how do we know he is playing Han? He could just be doing a cameo as an alien or something.

    Maybe he will play a Duros... from Duro! ]-}

    My deepest apologies. I'll go jump in a fire now.

    Did anyone ever think the re-casting of the Big 3 was likely? I certainly didn't, and I don't know many people who seriously entertained it.

    All the rumours I've heard have spoken about the ST being set at least 30 or 40 years after RotJ.

    Like I said before, the inclusion of Han makes it more likely that the EU will be messed with. If it was all original characters, there wouldn't be any EU history to be messed up.

    This definitely makes it more likely the EU will be contradicted. I would be shocked if Han and Leia's child/children aren't in some way significant to the plot.

    He's been cast as Jacen Solo, who will emerge from the Unknown Regions after a fifty-year sojourn and one hell of a bad dream.

    But did anyone ever think Han, Luke, and Leia wouldn't be in the ST? I figured there was a 99% chance at least one of them would be in it, and a 85% chance that Ford/Fisher/Hamill would return to reprise their roles. That was just my perception before today, anyways.

    That's a relatively minor thing, however ridiculous it is - but you know what? They did the same thing after the first X-Men movie - both Mystique and Toad were arbitrarily changed to match the movie and within a year or so the 'changes' were conveniently forgotten.

    I think it would be a different matter if they were brought in for cameos--if the movie were about a teen Sky Child and her wacky friends, they could set it in 20 ABY and de-agify the Big Three just enough to pop on and say something ominous. But if Ford's being locked down this soon, and his role is "substantial", it suggests, to my mind, more of a 30/40 ABY setting.

    EXACTLY. 8-}
