That's a long winded way of admitting you're evil :p

I still have no idea where you're coming from in saying older Luke with a beard "wouldn't look like Luke". Mark Hamill in general no longer looks like he did thirty years ago. The fact of the matter is, should Hamill reprise his role, the very first thing audiences are going to be thinking, upon seeing Luke, is about how different he looks. If he's given a beard, then that's an automatic queue to the audience that he's taken the role of a master, the role of Ben Kenobi, for himself. A beard, in this case, would be the simplest way to denote authority. It would be a noticeable change, and a message to the audience that Luke has grown up, and that he's now in control. He's going to look incredibly different either way, and it would be a better move to have that difference striking, rather than simply having him look older. A lot of older men specifically grow bears to make their face look less withered, more refined. That's good advice for Hamill, as far as I'm concerned.

That's a lot to take away from an arbitrary piece of facial hair, and of course it doesn't work like that in the real world, but people often naturally assign large meanings to very small things, and in film you have to use every kind of visual queue you can manage. I joke around with the beard, but I do think it would be an important, if very small, thing to add. It's very important that the first audience reaction to seeing Luke again be something along the lines of, "look how far Luke has come, he's just like his master now", instead of "man, Luke has gotten old".

But god no, Luke can't have a mustache. I won't lose any sleep if he doesn't have a beard, but he can't have a mustache. I'd rather he be missing his entire jaw [face_clown]

I see your reasoning and it makes sense, but it still looks ugly on him. And is too repetitive. A true master needs not look like one. Yoda looked like a small swamp smurf in the beginning too ;) and true mastery is what you do and not how you look...

and I think, your argument of him looking withered old without a beard... heck that is what I want to see and expect! no need to hide it but be proud of your age and how you look. else he is ashamed of himself... heck he should be a nudist at his age and not hide behind beards and clothes ;) (ok... look what you make me say here... I do not want to see him naked).

I mean he can look different or changed. But not unrecognisable and a beard does not fit him there, he looks like someone else and he should be Luke, not.. "Bearded Jedi xyz".

    just for you... sweet dreams

but to ease your pain... he still might look like this and hell I'd love that... that is the galactic fashion decades after the OT.. trust me, we just did not see it yet:

I cannot believe this is a debate that's actually happening.

Nothing surprises me after the Duros thread. Besides, what else are people going to discuss? The movie isn't out for another two years!

Personally, I think they should let Luke have a beard. He, Kyle, and Corran can have a Beard Off.

Jay and Silent Bob Hamill would be most satisfactory. That's what I call a compromise.

I like these Lit debates infinitely more than the entirety of the sequel forum.

That's like saying you prefer rug burn to a wood chipper.

Facial hair is serious business. Would anyone have given a crap what that crazy old man in the desert had to say if he didn't have a bodacious beard to back it up? I think not.

I'd be skeptical how and why he managed to remain clean shaven in the desert. A well groomed hermit is not a hermit you can trust [face_shame_on_you]

as a Ladies man he needs to take care of himself.. besides, Lukes friends were shaved aside a mustache or two.. even Owen did not have a proper beard. It is possible. Half of Mos Eisley was shaved... and Jabbas Palace too got a low beardcount.

Lets break out Decipher CCG cards and do a Tatooinian beard census if you like!

Are you saying everyone on Tatooine is a loner hermit, and should adhere to loner hermit doctrine? I find that offensive :p

Also, we all know Jabba would look better with a beard.

I agree on bearded Hutts, yet even among hermits Kenobi is the only one with a beard.. right?

heck even Tusken shave.. look at Sharad and A'sharad Hett!

Just do what I do. Have a scotch while reading the boards and it becomes incredibly more enjoyable. [face_shhh]

Speaking of which, why the hell haven't I poured myself a scotch yet?

So you admit you enjoy the Beardspeak even without the influence of scotch. Your journey is complete.

    it's commonly used vernacular

    "pour myself some scotch"
    "pour myself a scotch"

    both are acceptable

Uh oh, Nick's broken out the Calamarian liquor!

    True.

But not as cool as opting for a specific brand of Single Malt! And, no, you do not mix a Single Malt!
