Prior to NJO, Chewie will be captured by the sleeping villian of EP7, lets just use the one sith. Chewie is cloned, the clone has orders to kill Luke or Solos. Due to not seeing Luke or by over powering his commands, the clone becomes a hero. However, real Chewie is held in cryo stasis or carbonfrozen (w/e). On a mission, Jaina or even better Han discovers their long lost family member. They are happy and Chewie returns to the group. Makes a quip about changing his seat for one Leia's size...

If the only way to salvage the EU is via clones, I vote screw it.

There might actually be a great story to tell about how Chewie survived, if one can get past the trickiness of him surviving the moon's initial impact (either by brief shelter/intact shard of the planet til ship evac, etc). Maybe he wakes up from his injuries somewhere in the outer rim, gets stranded in a distant corner of the galaxy (or in unknown/wild space) by a Vong attack, and has his long journey of healing and making his way back to "civilization", wondering why no one has come for him and, perhaps, the extent and nature of his life debt.

As I said, if you can get over that initial bump.. there's a lot of potential there.

Correct, no one actually saw him die. With all the other deaths (and all the terror) roiling through the Force, I would say that it was unlikely that anyone could have felt him die.

My solution to the Chewie problem:

Sernpidal was not actually destroyed (i.e. shattered into fragments like Alderaan) - true it was hit by a 20km moon (twice as large as the so-called 'dino-killer' that hit the Yucatan region), but our planet survived that -- and it has been postulated that (a) there were more fragments hitting in other places over a period of hours or days and (b) that the dinosaur extinction actually occured some 300,000 years later.

Wookies are very tough, and extremely strong - Chewie would have had, IMO, a good chance of surviving the initial impact. And when disasters happen, who are usually hard on the scene? Salvagers and Looters, in addition to rescue services!

I'm starting to like the sound of this:

    Moon vs Chewie.

    Moon loses!

Chewie's son took on the name Chewbacca as a sign of respect? :p

Chewie was saved by the Mayor of Sernpidal. Isn't that obvious?

Perhaps he is cloned by some bun-fluff from the holochess seat. His same is Chewbaccca, but pronounced Chebacca, out of respect.

I can now see the future of Star Wars comics under Marvel... with Chewbacca strong enough to hold up an entire moon.

Now, aside from me, who else is going to get the comics reference you've casually thrown in there Captain Goodvalors?

With Marvel comics, will we get the return of Jaxxon?

I'm wondering whether or not the ST will be part of the "no EU" universe.

The more I think about it... I'm not opposed to a good, epic finale to the current Star Wars Saga before getting some kind of reboot, if the alternative is some humongous retconning. My suspension of disbelief can only go so far.

While I'm not a fan of the NJO series and beyond I do feel bad for those of you that do because I foresee that the ST will completely over-write that and pretty much all the post ROTJ EU. The writers/producers probably have an opinion of 'Why should I care about a book written 20 years ago, I'll just come up with something original' not caring that character A marries someone or that Han and Leia have 3 kids ect. ect.

Humongous retconning... that's what we do best. Enough duct tape, change new parts in, keep old parts, some overpainting, wait for a couple of years while the new continuity gets referenced in novels and she'll still fly Kessel in less than twelve parsecs.

No matter what they say or do. They could say nothing after EP6 happened in the EU. But I know that Corran Horn is an awesome Jedi somewhere in the galaxy, maybe he is just a forceusing Rogue Squadron member. He still marries Mirax, cause nothing Luke, Han, Leia, or Chewie does can change that. Kyp still makes his way out of the mines. Clighal still joins. Kyle is still an awesome solder. Iella Wessiri still marries Wedge, cause I highly doubt they are going to go in and "fix" his family. Then the authors just have to come in the post Ep. 7 EU, and add the "new" Solo/Skywalker characters and whomever else with the old EU characters who now have a blank slate to create what might become our "new" EU

In the Chewbacca mini series Luke said he felt Chewie's death in the Force and that "no planet could compare"

We talked a bit early in this thread--was it Uli and I? I forget--about how it would be better to just start fresh and rebuild the EU from the ground up than have to institute a million little TCW-level retcons to rationalize the ST. I honestly think that bringing major characters back to life, no matter how plausibly it could be done, is the exact line across which I'd rather say forget it. Non-spinning Ryloth, desert Mandalore? I can deal with that. Chewbacca or Jacen or Mara still alive and kicking? Not worth it.
