Yeah, that's my thought- *if* true, it (kind of) gives us a timeframe for the ST, which probably works better the later it's set.

I wonder how many older actors would appear in Episode 7. My guess is that they would bring in a clone trooper from the Clone Wars:

    "The Confederacy will rise again!"
"We fought for the Republic, Cody"
"Oh. Really? Could have sworn we killed Jedi in that one. Where are my teeth?"
"Use mine. They are all the same. But quiet now, they are showing the Revenge of the Sith documentary"
"Anakin, you are breaking my heart!"
"If you are not with me - you should be. Let's remarry"
THE END - edited for seniors

Mara Jade deserves a vote! Legacy Comics deserves a vote! The New Jedi Order deserves a vote! Waru deserves a vote!

Well now I know! Hehe. The EU is definitely in a state of uncertainty there is no denying that...

I think this could save the EU. Harrison is in his 70s. (He was in his 30s during OT) 40 years later. We might just see EU surviving.

Best to fear the worst and be pleasantly surprised if its not in this case.

I have great hope that the the EU indeed might survive if the age of the original actors is any indication to where the films will take place.

I still stand by my statement that if the intent was to kill off the EU, they'd stop publishing it now (And especially not publish things like Crucible and the new Legacy). Though I admit that a lot of uncertainties remain.

Still, seeing the Big 3 on screen again would quite honestly mean a lot...

Respectfully, your statement is insane and has no connection to reality. [face_whistling]

Very true, but I'd suggest keeping it to yourself so as not to scare the newbies. :p

Does the Harrison Ford casting rumour really mean anything for the EU? I think most people have been working off the assumption that the films would be set at least 30 or 40 years after RotJ.

If anything Harrison Ford's presence makes it more likely the EU will be messed with. Like if Han's been missing for 20 years. Or if he and Leia have three daughters.

    Hmm, good point.

The future of the EU is assured! No reason to panic! [face_party]

This is great news, and makes it even more likely that the EU will survive!! :D

    EDIT:

John Williams says he's really looking forward to return for the Sequel Trilogy:

Again, why? I'm not trolling, I just don't see why this announcement makes the EU's continuation any more likely.

Because this makes it very likely that the Sequel Trilogy will be set after FOTJ, around 40-50 years after the movies.

If we just got confirmed that some 25-year-old actor would be playing Han Solo in the Sequel Trilogy, then it would definitely be all over.

All things being equal, a ST subsequent to Crucible is far, far more likely to retain the EU than one in, say, 19 ABY - which, mind, is the size of the other trilogy gap. "Far more likely" is a relative term, of course--say 20% instead of 4%--but it's certainly not bad news.

I think the mainstream Marvel universe recently set the standard for this kind of thing when they pulled a black Nick Fury out of their asses to better mirror the movie universe.

Well if a 25-year-old was playing Han, we'd be looking at Episode 3.5. :p

I just had a thought: how do we know he is playing Han? He could just be doing a cameo as an alien or something.

    Maybe he will play a Duros... from Duro! ]-}

My deepest apologies. I'll go jump in a fire now.

Did anyone ever think the re-casting of the Big 3 was likely? I certainly didn't, and I don't know many people who seriously entertained it.

All the rumours I've heard have spoken about the ST being set at least 30 or 40 years after RotJ.

Like I said before, the inclusion of Han makes it more likely that the EU will be messed with. If it was all original characters, there wouldn't be any EU history to be messed up.
