I'd say in this case, it would be best to assume the worst and hope to God it's better than that.

This could be good or this could be bad.
Remember, Disney is behind Avengers. I say we start a petition for Joss Whedon to direct.

It's a good thing I was never heavily invested in post-ROTJ. Goodbye, DE, it was nice knowing you.

I'm torn. I want to stay optimistic and say this is what we've been waiting for: the end of Lucas, and a new owner with more respect for the franchise and the material.

The movie stuff is what really worries me: I am really not sure how they can do a 7, 8, and 9 without either I. adapting the EU (and thus changing parts of it for a movie) or II. jettisoning the EU.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe there isn't total cause for despair. They wouldn't keep pushing out new novels into 2014 as the official continuation of Star Wars if they were just going to invalidate them the next year, would they?

    ...Oh wait.

Now I fully comprehend how the Traviss fans feel.

They finally sentence EU to death after torturing it (and me) with the Clone Wars nonsense.

I'd bet heavily on the latter.

So, now that I think about it, I guess this is back to "it was going to be nine films all along."

IDK, Lucas almost seems the lesser of two evils

I, for one, find this incredibly awesome. Disney must have seen my "Star Wars is Dead" thread.

Best case scenario is the EU becomes an altogether separate universe that doesn't deal with the new movies. But I'm not holding my breath.

To everyone going "But look at The Avengers, look at what they did with Marvel!", consider the fact that Marvel never had a single continuity.

Okay, okay, I do have something to say. A tenuous piece of desperate hope.

After Indy IV, sure, they could probably pay Harrison Ford enough to come back as Han. But I don't think Fisher or Hamill wanting to come back. I'm...clinging to hope that because of that they'll be setting it well after ROTJ.

Argh, I really hope that there's some sort of announcement for us poor EU-loving minority before long.

I just. I AM NOT EMOTIONALLY PREPARED TO DEAL WITH THIS TODAY.

Wait a second... what does this mean for Dark Horse Star Wars comics?! Since Disney owns Marvel and Star Wars now....

Please don't take away the Star Wars comic license from Dark Horse, please. Even with no ongoing series at the moment, Dark Horse has still produced some of the best recent Star Wars stories. I'm still sad the Darkwing Duck comic series ended when Disney bought Marvel (at least I think that's what happened). Well, unless this means we can get Weaver back on a Star Wars project (not like that SHIELD series is going anywhere fast).

Let's not panic too soon though.

edit: Whoah, I hadn't thought about the Dark Horse aspect.

Consider also that Disney effectively let Marvel do what Marvel wants with the movies. It's not Disney that's responsible for its success, it's Marvel's movie studio, under Disney.

It's possible that LFL will end up with a similar deal - as long as it's working well, it'll be left to its own devices, but all we can really give Disney credit for regarding The Avengers is letting Marvel do its thing.
