I can't believe the John Carter of Mars movie is finally happening.

    Trailer #1

I like the look of Barsoom, and I'm glad the early rumors of Mars being envisioned as a Pandora sendoff were unfounded. Bryan Cranston and Willem Dafoe are part of the cast and I'm fully expecting them to bring some of the awesome. And I love they've kept Edgar Rice Burroughs as a character; it makes me kind of hopeful.

And what a weird Arcade Fire cover...

I'm so sick of these stereotypical hero plots. Oh look, you're special, you're the only possible person who can save us. Let's throw you in a foreign situation where you're "lost" and you can have low self esteem while you stumble through this choppy plot because you're driven by this mysterious girl, and in the end you'll end up saving the day because YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD SAVE US.

When in reality, there's probably a million girls more suitable for the fellow where he came from, he just is attracted to the shiny mysterious outer package. I want to see them make a movie of 6 months down the line after he's sick of her gassing up the bathroom and overcooking his steaks. And seriously, what then. If you're this damn special as these plots always make the characters out to be, why the hell aren't you doing anything a bit more productive, like taking over the world? What's to stop this guy from wiping out the bad guys AND the good guys and then taking ALL THE MYSTERIOUS HOT WOMEN.

I just want a change of pace damnit.

Haven't heard of this book before, but it looks to be an interesting. I'll have to request the book from the library.

They're early 20th century pulp novels, Fri-Fri. Planetary romance or sword and blaster. They're obviously very dated (it's the story of a human living adventures in Mars, after all) and full with what we nowadays consider cliches, but they can still be very fun, literary merit apart: they were a major influence on Star Wars, after all.

And the movie is going to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Princess of Mars. Rather cool. :)

Looks interesting, it's basically 'Tim Riggins' going on a bender and envisioning himself being sent to Mars.

I'm interested, but at the same time, I cant help but wonder if Andrew Stanton will be able to pull off the same level of emotional resonance with this has he was with Finding Nemo and Wall-E.

John Carter is ****ing awesome. I am more than pleased that THE planetary romance is finally hitting screens.

Though I'll admit, I always wanted Disney to do an animated version, ala Tarzan. :p

(Then again, in my perfect world, there'd be a Disney cartoon musical of everything)

I'm sure everyone noticed the similarities to AOTC and is just too polite to say anything. So I will note them here for archival purposes.

    Key Words: Star Wars
    Attack of the Clones
    AOTC
    Episode II
    Arena Scene
