Does anyone know how to set up Distributed rendering (rendering a single animation or image using two or more computers) on 3ds Max 5, or if there isn't a way as it comes, is there something you can get for free that will allow it?

Network licenses require that you shell out more money than you would pay for just one copy. How much depends on how many computers you want to be rendering with.

If you had it on network license, could you do distributed rendering?

Look on discreet's site, for crying out loud. I warn you, though, it'll involve paying them a lot of money....again.

once you get the network license, it's incredibly easy... once you get it installed on all systems involved... just run the Manager, then run Server on all systems, and monitor so you can delegate them...

real easy... oops, did I say too much...?

So you can't do it without the network license. Don't you also have to have the computers each have access to the Maps and model?

as long as they're networked, the maps, scenes, whatever is needed will be sent via the manager automatically...

the resources just need to be on the system where the manager is being run... in fact, Discreet even allows you to use non-licensed versions on the other machines as long as the main system has the network license... which was really nice of them...

How do you change the lisence from stand-alone to network?

to my knowledge it's not something that you can change... it's something you acquire from Discreet when you get the program and you either get the standalone or the network license...

I'm sure there are other ways, but I can't speak to that end...

    Darksteps...
