Discussion Do I really want to know?

When it'll come to spoilers I will pull a Johnny Cash and walk the line.

 

I'm in the same star ship as you. I like to know enough to know what plot points to speculate, but still be surprised. That's what it was like with The Dark Knight Rises. Knowing that Bane and Catwoman would be in it, as well as Nolan's style, helped me speculate what direction the film would take. I like how John Blake was heavily promoted before the film but not much said about him. It added to the early surprise that

John Blake knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman.

Now i did figure out before I saw the movie that

Miranda is Talia al Ghul.

However, partway into the film I actually thought that my speculation was wrong. Nolan did hit the ending out of the ballpark.
With Star Trek: Into Darkness, I know a few details about the villain but don't want to know more about him.
For episode seven, I'm not sure what I do and don't want to know.
I was not much into speculation when the prequels came out.
Here is what I say I will want to know:

• Are the mandalorians involved
• Will there be fractions trying to gain power
• which EU characters will appear
• The names of Han and Leia's kids
• the name's of Luke's kids
• Will the witches of dathomir be involved
• Which planets will appear
• the title
• will corellia be involved

What I don't want to know:

• The philosophy of any dark side user
• Character connections to any previous characters
• The exact roles characters will play
• The exact roles that the planets will play
• R2's heroic moment
• How and if Luke will die

 

The big difference with the PT is that we kne the story and how it was going to end (Anakin gets torched, becomes Vader etc), the only question was how it was done.

I have no problem with seeing concept art of characters and ships before seeing the movie, I saw a lot for Greivous before ROTS and that made me more excited to see him in the film.
I don't want to know the whole plot, but that is unlikely anyway.

 

I have struggled with this one a lot. I don't want to be spoiled rotten. I want to go in as fresh as I possibly can, but I really like it here. I like a lot of the people here and find their opinions interesting, so I think it's going to be tough to go say 8 months without coming and seeing what people are saying.
