Ok, I refuse to believe that there aren't enough lifters to form a social thread. I'm filled with optimism right now, having spent the evening with a seriously strong Scottish woman who's about to qualify with the same organisation I belong to. She also likes Star Wars and Tarantino movies and she's only a couple of years younger than me. I think I might just be falling for someone.

In other news, here's some of yoday's highlights at the gym for you iron addicts.

76kg steel block (not heavy but ****ing scary to put overhead)

    Block: 76kg:

Do we have to post videos of ourselves lifting or can we just lie and stuff?

I used to lift a lot more but my training partner moved to PNG with KPMG (no, really) and I've not been back at it. I was benching 120kgs comfortably at my peak. I might go grab a snatch at the gym now, actually.

    Tunick. You should try lifting.

The olympic lifts should be renamed. They are dirty. I would never perform the lift called the Snatch due to its risk. So if the subject comes up I must say, "I would never do the snatch because it is too dangerous, I pefer to clean and jerk." So wrong.

Drunken thread starting is never a good idea. 120kg is a solid bench, Ender. You should find a new training buddy.

In other news, finally find a strong, well-conditioned, bright, funny, single woman and she lives 500 miles away in bloody Glasgow. She has a really nice snatch, too :-(

Did you see the thread on Scottish independence, slightly_unhinged? Our American friends had many a valid and well-researched opinion which no, thank you, did not just consist of watching Braveheart and applying their own role as a French proxy in the England/France power struggles romanticised history with respect of independence from Britain.

(it actually did just consist of this)

Good for a chuckle and a read.

Sorry about the woman living in bonnie wee Sco'land, though. I'd say love conquers all, but a nation of penny-pinchers with heart disease is a big ask.

that's a bummer. strong, well-conditioned, bright, funny, single women with nice snatches are rare.
