Do you like Ewan McGregor's portrayal as Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Ewan almost makes Star Wars as a saga work singlehandedly.

We are supposed to assume that the above remark is merely an opinion and not a fact . . . right?

 

Ewan most certainly does have lots of screen presence (to go along with his great acting). The guy practically has charisma oozing from his pores. That's part of the reason he's the most notable actor in the PT. He made the character of Obi-Wan rise above the rise above the material time and time again and practically the only likable character. While GL's intent was for all of us to fall in love with Anakin (so we'd be heart broken when he fell), a lot of us fell in love with Obi-Wan instead.

I think Ewan did a great job playing Obi-wan Kenobi. He and Hayden did a tremendous job because Ewan looks just like Alec Guiness, with the face and how his character is awsomely done. Hayden too, because he so cute.

I remember thinking it should be Kenneth Branagh (the guy from the Frankenstein remake with Deniro), I thought this when I thought that Obi and Anakin would be older in the prequels....

I think Ewan did a fantastic job...wish i had time to elaborate more, but thumbs up! Top man!

If there were a Episode 3.5 just showing him getting settled in his hut in Tatooine I'd go see it...

 

I would totally go see Episode 3.5 too if it was all about Obi-Wan. The man is that charasmatic that a movie all about him on Tattooine would probably still be interesting.

I definitely think Ewan was on the level with Ian in ROTS, as do I think Hayden was for that matter. But Ewan was perfectly cast, I mean dead on, it's almost uncanny really. And I love how it took the transition to becoming Alec so seriously, very dedicated actor.

This is the one of the best posts I've seen on here in a while. Ewen is the only reason the first 3 star wars pictures didn't TOTALLY SUCK. Honorable mention to Ian.

 

Ewan brought life to Obi-Wan IMO.
Obi-Wan became likeable and someone to admire and respect.
His wit was a nice touch.
His looks don't hurt either

 

Perectly put I agree 100%, Fat_Bird. I'd always wondered about the backstory of Obiwan as well as Vader and because of Ewan's portrayal, I not only got the back story but I cared more deeply than I ever imagined.

 

I have to say I was most sceptical when I heard that the young chap from Trainspotting was to play my beloved Obiwan - even more sceptical when I saw the padawan hair cut.

But a better hair do and one beard later and I think he was mighty fine. Mighty fine indeed. He captured that quiet, calm, gentle yet strong presence that Alec Guinness (all hail!) honed to an absolute 'T' in the OT.

For me he was the saving grace for the PT's in light of the, well, lightweights they had for some of the other roles. He kept me watching.

Yip, really rather glad they chose Ewan.

 

Ewan's amazing and I don't see how anyone could question this spark of casting brilliance. He is Obi-Wan as much as Alec Guiness now.
