Others have done it better, but Tolkien did it first and that counts for a lot.
Wonderful series, but the Silmarillion was the best thing that Tolkien ever wrote.
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin is better.
I can't understand Silmarillion at all
LOTR es la bomba!
LoTR meeto patu poof!
LOTR is the bomb!
Yeah, Silmarillion is like a bible or ancient history/lore of middle earth... It's quite challenging to read IMHO. But still very interesting.
Of course I like LOTR. I've read many books in my time, some better written, sure, but LOTR has a special place in my own personal history. My dad would tell me the story when I was very little and I first read it for myself when I was about 9 years old
It was this book we have to thank for all the many Fantasy books we now have, and for my own interest in all things Fantasy & from there Sci-Fi, including SW.
IMHO it is one of the best. Can't wait for all 3 films.(and Harry Potter).
Closer to "best book ever written."
I also enjoyed The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-Earth, and all twelve volumes of The History of Middle-earth, in which Christopher Tolkien publishes his father's unpublished manuscripts from about 1915 to 1973 and recounts the evolution of J. R. R. Tolkien's conception of Middle-earth.
For the person who said that there's no new material...believe me, you're missing a gold mine...
Get this in our town me and my boyfriend are the only one who have ever read The Sillmarilian... every one else never finishes it
How much do I like LOTR?
Let me see....I'm now reading it for the twelth time.
Well, my brother just gave me the book and i read it one time aready and the movie will be awsome!
Second only to The Godfather and The Stand.
It's a pretty decent read but I can't wait for the movie!!!
I've been a fan of the books since 1968. I've seen the movie twice, and plan to see it at least two more times. I loved it!
I appreciate the detail that went into the creation of that world, but I don't think Tolkien was a good writer by any means. So, no, I don't like LOTR.
I loved the books and I loved the movie! Yeah, it was boring at first, but after a while, the story just sprouts wings and takes off!
GREATEST BOOK OF ALL TIME
I've read them twice in my life.Great stuff but not the greatest books in the world.
One of the few books I've never managed to finish, since it was soooo boring. Have seen the film, didn't like the story in it even if it was a beautiful film.
I can't really say it was the best book ever written. I had to choose the third alternative anyway since I am quite a LotR lover too..
ehh, its cool. The movie was fun.
It was a beautiful book, and I really appreciated the details, which I look out for a lot in books.
Saw the movie; loved it.
Decided to read the books: They are so great! At the beginning, sure it's weird... there are people always singing! But later you just can't stop reading it. Now I can't wait for the Two Towers and Return of the King. I'm about to read the Hobbit and the Silmarilion(sp?) and I hope I'm gonna like them too.
Whoever voted one or two or three gonna be in trouble!
I voted #4 and proud of it!
Guess I'm in trouble then.
Never read the books. The movie was OK.
