I found the books to be very creative and so amazingly desriptive.

That said, they were a chore and so many times I was bored to tears.

<< The book can be confusing, but when you read it more than three times, it is exciting and for the two movies that came out are awesome, I can't wait for ROTK >>

See, a lot of people tell me that. And that's the thing. I shouldn't have to read the book 3 times just to finally find it exciting. And that goes for any book. I'm an avid reader, but I cannot for the life of me be the sort of person that has to read a book more than once to finally find something or that I have to wait until the second or third book to finally get into it.

It's like with other series of books. I couldn't stand them. But my buddy was like, "Dude, wait until you get to the 4th book in the series, then you'll change your mind."

Why the hell do I have to wait 3 books to change my tune?

lucas was in part inspired by the lotr when making star wars. so I guess lucas is not a true fan of star wars either.

Personally, I think it is one of the greatest works of literature every written. I mean, it is fantastic in every way, and I think Tolkien is a genius.

I first read it 5 years ago in 6th grade, and I have fallen in love with it ever since. I found it was being made into a movie when I was finished reading it, and I was overjoyed. I don't like how many people have seen the movies, read the books, and discovered it from there though. Personally, I think you'd have to read the books first ;)

    I voted for "OK."

I have read a LOT of books that were better, and of course a LOT of books that were worse. I certainly don't think it was the greatest book ever written (because, it's not), but I must give him credit for imagination alone.

as long as people pick up the books and read them I will be happy. if it took a movie for them to discover it thats great. they are reading. unfortunetly there are far more people who will watch the movies and be content with just that. never picking up the book or any other book for that matter.

these books have been around fo 50 years. and there is still a huge population who have never read them. you discovered it in the 6th grade just before the movies were announed I first read them in the 6th grade too. 12 years before the movies. 10 years fom now sombody else in the 6th grade will read them. does it matter if they saw the movie first?

Managed to find a new one book edition of it for $13.87 US.

the movies are ok, nothing more, I own them on DVD and watch them occasionally, I don't see it as anything wonderful or something I can't live without.

It's okay. The only reason I ever saw any of them is because of Orlando Bloom! :p

Though IMHO, ROTK is extremeley overrated.

It is the greatest fantasy book of all times.
Almost all current fantasy books have some part fo the Lord of the Rings in them.

On the Films, Only OT Star Wars is in the same league.

    11 Oscars say it all.

The books were great, but pretty long. I loved them soooo much! The best one was THE TWO TOWERS by far. RETURN OF THE KNING was way too epic, and THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING wasn't all that exciting.

IMHO, it's by far the best fictional work ever written.

After all, a British survey agreed with me. (forgot which one)
