It is the BEST BOOK EVER WRITEN! It is great because you have to be more intellegence then a ten year old to understand it, and you have to have an attention span greater then that of a fly. If you disagree, fine, but do relize that the majority of the reasons that people have given here for not liking it makes them look like illeterate slobs. Dissagree with me now? Want to match wits with me?

I've read the trilogy twice. The Hobbit is a fantastic book as well. The Silmarillion was a good book to read also. I've also enjoyed all of the other books about Middle Earth.

As a whole Tolkien must be considered one of the best writers of the 20th century.

Try 10 times. They're the best books ever! I like the third movie best but I can't wait 'til The Hobbit comes out. They're supposed to be filming that next.

JK Rowling is definitely second. But what's with the initials? If they're so afraid of stalkers, use a pen name.

I love LOTR. The romance in the story is beautiful. When you read the books or watch the movie you get transported into a whole new universe.

The romance is nice but if I were Arwen, I would make Aragorn wash his hair. Or at least take a bath!

The reason for the initials for LOTR is because if takes a lot of space to type out John Rondland Reule Tolkein. For Harry Potter it was because the publishers were afraid that boys would not read it if they knew a girl wrote it.

I don't know any boys who do read it anyway. They're all too lazy (No offense) And think "Oh I'll just watch the movies when they come out." They don't realize that books are so much better and allow you to use your creativeness so much more.
I think that unless the book was made after the movie, that the book is much better.

I despise the book. Horribly written. I hate Tolkien's style of writing.

    I love the films though.

I can not see how anyone who considers themeselves a Fantasy/ SciFi fan can not love these movies. They are the best of the genre ever made.

But I have read the Tolkien trilogy 3 times in my life. Once when I was 12 and hated it. Once again when I was 18 and thought that maybe I was too young for it at 12 yeas old, and I hated it. And once again after the release of ROTK when I was 32 thinking I may indeed have a better appreciation for the books now that I loved the movies, and I hated it.

I love reading Fantasy novels, and some of my favorite authors include RA Salvatore, Terry Brooks, and Terry Goodkind; but I find Tolkien's writing style to be overly descriptive, boring, and often painful to read. I appreciate that he is considered the gradfather of Fantasy, and I thank him for his contributions to the genre, but I just can not get into his writing style.
