Do you prefer dubbed movies or subtitles?

Subtitles. German dubs are horrible. I'd love to see an English movie with German subtitles and just ignore the subtitles. And I prefer subtitles when watching anime anyway. Like others have said, you don't loose the true feeling of the character like you do with dubbing.

I'd rather hear the actors' real voices; but I don't find the subtitles very accurate, either. And you are so busy reading, you often lose other subtlties.

The thing is that the international movies are always dubbed in German cinemas...you can only see a few in original version...
and often it's rather well-dubbed...even if Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hofman end with the same voice..

No competition, definitely subtitles.

 

No question about it -- subtitles. I prefer to see a film/TV show in its original language. Besides, I've seen so many badly dubbed films (including ESB, which was the very first SW movie that I ever saw -- has a terrible French dub track). Dubs tend to lose a lot of the emotion put in by the original actors.

 

Generally subtitles, though there are special cases. Dubbing can be done right - it works out very well in animated films, such as Hayao Miyazaki's works. If done well enough, it can even work in live action. In the best cases - such as The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - it's barely noticeable, even if you look for it.

With dubbing, you are distracted by the actor's mouths not matching what they say.
