Really. You believe the fact that you have sex with members of your own gender prevents people who find that immoral from having sex in a way that they consider moral?

    Really.

    ...

All right, time to get this out. Homosexual marriage is NOT a homosexual rights issue fundamentally. Yes, it only pertains to homosexuals and therefore it is a homosexual rights issue in a certain sense, but homosexual marriage is a gender rights issue.

I have the legal competence to marry any woman who is willing. A woman has the legal competence to marry any man who is willing.

What I do not have is the same legal competence as a woman - that is, the ability to marry a man. Likewise, she does not have the ability to marry a woman. (In New Mexico as of today)

Homosexual marriage is fundamentally a gender rights issue and not a homosexual rights issue. No one is being denied anything because of their orientation. They are being denied something because of their gender.

I'm pretty sure he's being sarcastic, since you know, one argument is how gay marriage undermines traditional marriage.

    I'm confused by OZK
Men have the right to marry women. Women have the right to marry men. OK
Then (paraphrase) A woman doesn't have the right to marry a man? Huh?

And I was being both obnoxious and serious. I believe a lot of the "Morality" concerns that people have is just a form of frustration that has been misdirected.
They need to take all that energy and refocus it on making themselves happier with themselves, rather than making everyone else miserable.

yeah dude oppressor groups usually dont deny themselves things, that's not how life works. if straight men wanted to marry men in large numbers for some reason, they'd totally be allowed. this is some pretty hilarious sophistry tho and i need some hilarious youtubes to watch so id appreciate it if you let me know what bible-college "academic" or apologist you got this from so i can look em up. im running out of william lane craig tubes

A dictionary definition does not constitute a veritable source because it does not have the ability to explain a complex concept, much less have a credible author. For example, it would be like handing a person a dictionary and telling him to look up "physical chemistry", read the definition, and acquire the knowledge of studying physical chemistry. All he will understand is how to use the word, in a sentence, rather than understand the underlying principles which are the true key to understanding [anything].

I recommend you read Man, Economy, and State by Murray Rothbard to better understand what socialism is.

Same, but I've discovered it's not that odd or rare as I thought it was

(also, in recent news, the largest Protestant church in Canada just elected an openly gay man in a committed, same-sex marriage as their new leader)

    1. I think he was joking.

    2. I agree that the fundamental issue is Equality between Men and Women. Living in a "gender-blind" society, or at least with a "gender-blind" law (with exceptions only for the obvious physical differences).

Support 100%. We're writing 2012 - it's unbelievable that people can be denied marriage simply because the person they love happens to be of the same sex as themselves.

Considering all other ridiculous things that society as a whole does, why is it so unbelievable? [face_rofl]

It's unbelievable that someone can be denied marriage simply because they are related to the person they love.

    Support true marriage equality.

True, but since society doesn't stop blondes from marrying brunettes or interracial couples from marrying (at least not in my country), I don't see why it matters that two people are of the same sex ;)

They are Related? I'm confused again. Are you advocating same-sex marriage, or incest?

But how is it unbelievable? Our military goes to foreign countries and kills their people, and "society" condones it! How can something as meaningless as gay marriage be unbelievable compared to what is being taken from people overseas, for example?

Rogue_Ten is obfuscating. We're talking in the context of a secular government.

Thus, I support legal homosexual relations even though I personally disagree with them. I support legal contraception even though I disagree with it. I support legal pornography even though I disagree with it. Likewise, I support legal incest even though I disagree with it.

If they're consenting, it's none of my business.

You have a good point. I think you're right. Our society does a lot of ridiculous things and it's perfectly believable that they happen. But if gay marriage not being legal is ridiculous then so is consanguineous marriage.

You missed that thread on the temporary boards, didn't you?

Read what you quoted again. Now he's talking about consenting adults who are related being able to marry.

I think this topic might be better suited for its own thread, like on the temporary boards

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess one's just been made: http://boards.theforce.net/threads/...sanguineous-marriage-anonymous-poll.50003382/

As far as the law goes, I'd say I largely agree with what OZK has said in the last page. I disagree about the morality of stuff, but I do think he's right, both that it's an issue about gender equality more than homosexuality (although the two are extremely linked, the law is based on gender checks). And that true marriage equality won't exist until restrictions like those on incest are also gone.

seriously tho ozk ive never seen that argument from before and it seems to, unbelievably, be gaining traction with libertarians/thinly closeted bigots in the thread who are hell bent on abdicating their moral responsibility to society. were you inspired by someone or did you come up with it all on your own?

Technically, two people who are related getting married aren't necessarily going to have sex. Marriage doesn't actually require sex, which is why I've wondered why people get up in arms about "unnatural" or other nonsense.

Yeah, if standup comedians have taught me anything, it's that the best way to stop gay sex is to let them get married.
