This is for a school essay, hence the closing period.

Hey there...are you from around here? I don't recognize your username. Welcome to the Boston board. :)

I voted none of the above. I think American film "decency" standards are extremely prudish. I enjoy foreign films immensely because I find the lack of restrictions on content to be refreshing. Nudity, sex, and violence can all play out beautifully in a film, and I think it works best when people aren't so easily offended. Too many people will put porn and a foreign film with male full frontal nudity in the same category.

These "offensive" topics are part of human nature and inevitably come up when telling stories about, well, humans. When we place so many restrictions on content, I think it hinders the art of the storytelling.

Oh, yeah. I'm just saying it has gone too far in child themed movies and stuff.

I live about 20 or so minutes from Boston.

Can you give any examples? I think we shield our children from too much. I spent nearly a month living in France between my freshman and sophomore years of high school, and I can't adequately describe in words just how different it is over there. There, nudity isn't something to be ashamed of, or automatically associated with sex. And sex isn't such a taboo topic. The kids of the family I stayed with were so much more mature and independent than I was at that age.

Sex: Inside Deep Throat. Do we really need a movie about that movie, did we even need the movie in the first place?

Language: Gigli, Good Will Hunting, Something About Mary, and a whole plethora of movies I haven't see or heard of yet.

Violence: Decapitations, arm and leg separations, child murder, domestic style violence, people bursting into flames, and such.

In the past I would have voted none of the above, because I would just not (knowingly) go to a movie that had too much sex, violence and/or vulgar language. However, now that I have a child I am definitely feeling more "prudish" and wish there wasn't so much "bad stuff" (for lack of a better term) that I feel compelled to shield him from.

I said none of the above. I don't particularly like movies that have a lot of violence and gratuitous sex in them but that's not my call as I'm not making the film and ultimately, it's my choice whether I see it or not. People always have a choice. And when it comes to children, it's the parents responsibility to make good choices for their child until the child is responsible enough to make them on their own.

    Good luck on your project!!

Good luck on your project! :) I also think that it is up to each person what movies they see, and each person's opinion is going to be different in terms of what is going to far and what is not.
