There isn't a 'lightside' as such - that's just not how it works. It's not a literal, binary division.

There is the status quo, and there is the darkside.

No that's not true. The Dark Side is fear, aggression and anger which are essential things in nature. How else could an animal eat another or run from fire? The Dark Side is essential, however it should be rejected.

The happy ending from previous episode would have to be annulled in some shape or form, I'm afraid. (Yes, that diminishes the accomplishments of our heroes, no way around that.)
Mind you, Kasdan is somewhat of a specialist on the matter (annulling the happy-endings). The Big Chill is all about annulling the happy ending of "high school graduation", and ESB annuls the happy ending of ANH (with a vengeance). Body Heat does not have a happy ending to begin with. But despite all that, at least in his pictures, there is always a hope, and the ending is not entirely dark as well.
