It simply should have been ended after COE, there was nothing more to be done with it. Certainly don't continue it if it's going to be worse than what came before.

But CoE was so unusually good for a Torchwood story. There were only 2 or 3 decent episodes before it IMO.

At the end of A Good Man Goes to War, the Doctor and the TARDIS departed before River gave the piece of cloth with her name on it to Amy to read. And if I remember correctly, she then said the TARDIS translation matrix needed some time to kick in. But when the words on the cloth turned into River's name for Amy and Rory, the TARDIS wasn't even there anymore.

The TARDIS' translation matrix works for a while (though it was never said for how long exactly) after someone leaves the range or the TARDIS leaves the range.

The range that the ability starts to decay isn't even specified that I can recall.

Magical universal translators in sci-fi never have any sort of consistent rules.

Filming's back in Cardiff at a museum:

Not pictured, but reportedly with Matt and Jenna was Jemma Redgrave and extras as UNIT soldiers.

That's the museum Young Amy goes to in The Big Bang, and it's also the outside of Lazarus' building :)
Oh and it's the place where that annoying girl robs in Planet of the Dead
    and Van Gogh goes there
    and it's Van Statton's collection

Well that fits what Matt was saying in his last few interviews when he gave vague hints about 'paintings' I guess he was referring to filming in a museum.

She hears the Daleks speaking in German.

I meant in the time between Martha' adventures and her Series 4 finale appearance, it had worn off.

I think that was more of a gag from the writers than it not being translated TBH

Because the Daleks are pretty much the ultimate Space Nazis and "EXTERMINIEREN!" sounds rather good in German. :p

I think Davies said something to the effect of "well, I guess it wore off" because he really wanted them to say "exterminieren" or whatever the German is.

Ausrotten sounds good in German. Exterminieren sounds good in slightly racist made-up German. ;)

Thought it was "exterminaten" in the episode. Not that I actually know.
But it didn't translate, which was the point.

The Daleks weren't strictly speaking German either, that's my point. ;)

Well, that's kind of what I meant. :p Although, the Daleks technically aren't racist, they're speciesist - they think all life forms are inferior to Dalek.

Plus, even though it's probably not the best translation, it's still very close to their trademark "exterminate".

But it was /intended/ to be seen as "German."

The best translations rarely start making up words.

Well, if BBC account fed that the special was entitled "the Eleven Doctors" or something, we'd have better things to talk about....like who'd play Pertwee.
