Amph Doctor Who Discussion (Russell T. Davies returns)

Maybe the TARDIS (and by the way, it's a "she", not an "it"!) has a problem with Clara because of who/what she is? Like some unnatural phenomenon or something... Similar to how she tried to shake off Jack Harkness in Utopia.

 

Which is an interesting thought, because if Sexy is uneasy about Clara... I'm inclined to believe there's something to be uneasy about...

 

I don't think you could call it a city... I'm surprised it's not made it into the Crap Towns list, but I suppose it does have vaguely pretty bits... ..But then so does Hythe and I wouldn't call that place blissful either.

 

I'll agree that I wasn't really a big fan of the ending. Other than that, I thought it was brilliant.

 

Yeah, I can. Carlisle is a city.



EDIT: Also, a couple of other things about the episode:

• The Doctor said "Geronimo."
• There was another reference to the "eleventh most..." something... in this case, "Whisky is the eleventh most disgusting thing ever invented." We've already had the mention of chapter eleven in Amy's book being the best chapter and one other (from 'Akhaten' or 'Cold War'), which right at this moment escapes me.

 

I agree with Mar and Everton and even (gasp) solojones.

A genuinely scary episode for all the reasons mentioned. Best episode this series (with the possible exception of The Snowmen)

 

Even better than 'A Town Called Mercy'?

I agree there's something to the TARDIS not liking Clara, since it's been mentioned a few times. I too wondered if it was something like Jack being 'wrong'.

See! Surely this is the largest stamp of approval! If somehow you and I can agree on an episode's greatness, that's got to be the ultimately sign, right?

 

I loved the episode as well. Was I the only one getting a serious Paul McGann vibe from Dougray Scott's character? I dunno, that's all I could think about when he was onscreen. But yeah, it was good. I was a bit worried they would mess up the tone, but it worked fantastically. Also loved the conversation between Eleven and the Professor; you would think the horrors of killing and sacrificing would be something the Doctor can relate to.
Which really was my problem with "A Town Called Mercy": the Doctor seemed to ignore the clear parallels between himself and the other doctor(I'm completely blanking on his name). I felt that his willingness to shove the man outside the town lines to his death showed some self-loathing. I think I'm beginning to ramble now...

 

What was the point of the circle, though? I don't think it was brought back up again...

I really liked this one, but, yet again, like nearly every episode this year, a longer timespan would have helped. At least five minutes...

 

It was the "mouth" of the wormhole, I believe.

 

...that makes sense, I suppose...but would make more had they said anything...

Interesting how a preview can give you the impression about an episode. I was seriously underwhelmed by last week's preview, but turned out to be a decent, scary episode
