It did seem kind of... unfortunate, but I'm quite sure them both being black never even crossed RTD's mind, because if it had he'd have been far too self conscious of the fact to go through with it. I think it was just a standard "pair the spares" thing.

Anyhoot, my hope is that next time we see Martha and Mickey on the show they're not together yet, and we realise that Ten's final encounter with them was several years into their future. Then I could accept it happily.

To be fair RTD did state in an interview that he'd planned to lay some sort of foundation for a Mickey/Martha pairing in Children of Earth, but both Noel and Freema backed out of doing it (Freema chose L&O: UK instead), and thus we get the suddenly seeming "Pair the Spares" thing in EOT.

That would ameliorate things slightly, yes. Of course, they'd have to explain what happened to the lovely Tom Milligan and why Martha broke her engagement with him.

One headcanon I've always had is that perhaps Tom died in Children of Earth while he and Martha are on their honeymoon (I still hold that perhaps Tom and Martha did get married at some point after JE), perhaps by UNIT (or other Govt.) soldiers while he and Martha are protecting children wherever they are at. That would explain why Martha doesn't seem to be affiliated with UNIT anymore in EOT.

Exactly what I was going to say Mar. At least get us used to the idea. It was way too sudden and seemed to be based entirely on race.

Well, it was the only thing they had in common.

They were similar in that they both had unrequited love issues... Mickey was Rose's cuckold, Martha pined after a disinterested Ten (who was obsessed with his unrequited love, Rose). There are dynamics and similarities to be explored there, but the way it was presented did seem arbitrary.

Um, Martha resolved her unrequited love issue by the end of "The Last of the Time Lords". She got over Ten and got together with Tom Milligan. And they would've lived happily ever after if RTD didn't decide to meddle.

Mickey would unfortunately never get together with his one true love, p-p-p-pizza.

Seriously, I've seen fanfic deal with those dynamics brilliantly. A bit of expanded view on Mickey/Martha onscreen would be wonderful.

    Gaiman's upcoming episode sounds interesting.

The Doctor & co go to a theme park with a chess-playing Cyberman attraction.

The Cybermen also use Cybermites, and can upgrade very quickly.

Seems from the Next Time clips that the old Cybusmen are upgraded into new Cybermen rather than these being true Mondasmen.
Someone has to be Cybercontroller, is it The Doctor?

Not particularly well reviewed in Radio Times, but apparently Matt acts it very well

    "And who played the Master?"
"Oh, this amazing actor, I can't remember his name, but he's a really good actor..."
    "No, it's Eric Roberts."

    Yep, pretty much. :p

Something else about 'The Crimson Horror'. It occurred to me when The Doctor was asking Ada about her mother, after she placed her hand on his face to identify him as her Monster. A wonderful quiet moment, during which I decided that Matt does sympathy, empathy, extending comfort and reassurance to another soul, better than Tennant.
