Good move, this. Don't want somebody well known overshadowing an unknown Doctor.

I just hope she doesn't have a family.

Me too. And I also hope she's not from London. She's Scottish, so they could let her keep her accent, it would be a nice refreshing change from the previous three London companions - and I would also love it if she weren't from present day (hah, wouldn't it be nice if she were from Jamie McCrimmon's time? :p).

Ooooooooooooooo; I hadn't even thought of that.

Yes. Yes it would. Something different would be grand.

It's like Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Connelly had a baby.

I'm wondering if it was her last name that caused the rumour about Gillian Anderson playing the Rani in Season 5... :p

Cool news, but damn if these kind of things aren't making it harder to wait for Who to come back. When's the next special? Some time in November?

Yep. It is a long wait - I wish they'd gone with the August bank holiday date, rather than with November, it would've spread the specials more evenly.

EDIT: I can haz propr grammer nao?

Outpost Gallifrey have a picture of her from last season's Fires of Pompeii:

She looks like one of Padme's handmaidens from TPM. No wonder I didn't recognise her.

I like that they helpfully pointed to his hair with the word 'haircut'.

Maybe its my love of Tennant but I am not yet buying Smith as the Doctor. I want to...I really want to. God knows my interest in the show has only been held by David over the last Season and a bit but as I have said elsewhere, those are a big pair of Chucks Smith has to fill.

Maybe I will change my mind when I see him perform...i recall feeling the same about Eccleston when he was leaving.

Smith has a Steven Moffat-written first episode going for him, plus Moffat is running the whole series. Moffat.

    Moffat, Moffat, Moffat.

Pompeii- That's why she looks familiar!

I would also love to see her be from a different era but that won't happen. The producers are so set on making the new Who (meaning this whole run, not just this new Doctor) contemporary that I don't see them going there.
