I don't know about anybody else, but I'd like to see the Nightmare Child, the Skaro Degradations, the Hordes of Travesty, and the Could've Been King and his Army of Meanwhiles and Neverweres during Moffat's run.

Speaking of Rassilon, was he supposed to literally be Rassilon or is it a same name, different guy sort of thing? The implications of the former are... disturbing.

Seconded. The Nightmare Child sounds especially interesting.

I can't help but imagine Rassilon's other regenerations as played by former Bonds: the charismatic but tough Sean Connery Rassilon, the disappointingly bland George Lazenby Rassilon, and the lightweight but randy Roger Moore Rassilon.

Was Rassilon even still alive at the time of the original show?

No. But it is RTD writing.

I was wondering if it might not be a Caesar type of thing. Once upon a time it was a guy's name but since has become a recurring title for someone holding that specific title of authority.

I think it's supposed to be the actual Rassilon. If you've seen The Five Doctors you'll know that Rassilon did have the secret of immortality to some degree, and was rumoured to have a dark side covered up by the official histories. The Five Doctors was not a masterpiece of plotting, however (which is not to say I don't have a soft spot for it), and Rassilon's existence as a living being, as well as his moral nature, were left ambiguous.

I don't think it's a title, considering the original series used the term "Lord President," although it might be seeing as the Time War Time Lords (TWTLs?) weren't exactly the Time Lords we were used to.:p

Of course the other explanation is that it was the actual Rassilon, which would imply that someone decided reviving him was a good idea. Talk about desperate times calling for desperate measures.

It really WAS Rassilon, it was confirmed by RTD in the Confidential.

[face_laugh] [face_laugh] [face_laugh] And the Daniel Craig Rassilon, to match the Master's new blonde hairstyle... :p

Anyone know where I can find pictures of the 11th Doctors hair? I'm thinking about getting my hair cut tomorrow just like it.
Trouble is my face is a touch to round/fat for it maybe. :(

I'm too lazy to look back but did we really not mention the SW nods in the Doctor's finale?

The whole "hell-on-Earth" automatically brought my mind to Supernatural. :p That, and RTD's comments to everyone after COE made me wonder if it were really an intentional thing.

It was definitely Rassilon. It isn't that hard to believe that as the Time Lords have already resurrected the Master for the Time War, I don't see why they wouldn't/couldn't resurrect one of their most influential/dominant figures as well. It was hell on Gallifrey, and the Time Lords were getting desperate. Real desperate. *shrug*

It's arguable that he wasn't even dead anyways. Just ... sleeping or whatever. He had the knowledge of immortality and such. I just wish his role as Rassilon was more than just a throwaway line at the end. It could have been Omega, Borusa, or J.R. "Bob" Dobbs Jr. for all the difference it made to the plot.

At this point I've just started using the Time War to justify wildly differing things in continuity. If the war really involved using time travel to screw things up over and over again, then literally anything is possible. Thankfully this allows me to reconcile the Lungbarrow and the Cartmel Masterplan with the information about the Time Lords we've seen in Davie's run.

They said people died and were reborn in an endless cycle didn't they? Maybe that's why Rass killed the woman who said maybe it should stop?

Did anyone else get their hopes up when that woman lowered her hands from her face at the end, and the Doctor seemed to recognize her? I was like "oooh! I hope that's Susan" but alas they said nothing...
