He had come to the far reaches of the galaxy to hide from his pain.
The temple was a retreat for those wishing to escape a harsh galaxy. The walls were painted a soft cream and in the distance a soft voice sung a tuneless song. Every inch was dedicated to care and relaxation.

The Doctor walked, something he seemed to be doing alot lately. His restless energy was replaced by the monotonous grind of putting one foot in front of the other.

Eight months had not eased the pain of losing Donna, he at least had the comfort of knowing that Rose would be happy with his clone, that Martha would excel at her job and that Jack would put torchwood back together with his team.

But Donna was another faceless human in a packed world, she would never know how proud he was of her. How deep the depths of his regret would be for the rest of his long life.

It was only recently that the relationship between himself and his companions has changed. It had begun with Rose, he had needed her to remind him of what he could be, what he should be, and his love for her had felt like a knife ripped through his heart. He had hurt Martha too, by being unable to reciprocate her feelings.

It had never occured to him that he would fall so deeply for Donna, least of all Donna, if he was perfectly honest. Donna had been his friend, closer to him in that respect than either Martha or Rose. They had been mates rather then lovers, and perhaps that was why he had never noticed it.

    Until it was too late.

The chanting grew louder and the Doctor forced himself back to the present. A group of beings were huddled around a portrait. Beside them a large oak table was covered with wine and delicate flowers. Curious the Doctor drew closer and almost rocked back on his heels.

The painting was of Donna in her wedding gown. How the picture had been taken and reproduced in paint, he had no idea. In her bridal gown, head up in anticipation of the happiest day of her life, and haloed by her veil she looked like an angel.
Beside him people were praying, giving thanks in many different languages. Beside him a young woman with her son was gently laying a flower upon the table.

"I'm sorry what is this for?" The Doctor asked when he could speak. The woman looked at him, her large eyes filled with gratitude. "This is Donna the saviour of the universe" She looked to the sky. "May she be blessed every single day of her life"

The Doctor thought of Donna, her days filled with tedious office work, by being downtrodden by her mother and her collegues and never knowing that in the furthest reaches of space she was hailed as a Goddess, a saviour.

He looked up at the beautiful portrait and felt both his hearts constrict with pain. He has come seeking solace from the pain but had only inflicted more pain upon himself. It gave him comfort that these beings remembered Donna as a hero, but for the Doctor the constant image of her tear streaked face as he took away her memories was burned into his mind.

He was sure it would be another nine hundred years before that changed.

    End

:_| I hated what happened to Donna. It was so unfair!

They had been mates rather then lovers, and perhaps that was why he had never noticed it.

That's what I liked most about them. :( Great vig!
