"Look, we can think of plans later. Can we just get somewhere safe for the moment, yeah?"

Distracted, the Doctor ignored everyone, craning his neck to see what that annoying high-pitched drone was. First thing he noticed was the lack of pidgeons in Trafalgar Square. Of course, they would have been startled by the panicking, screaming hordes, and then the rythmic tramp of Cyber-boots, but as a species, they tended not to remain startled for long.

He looked up to see one silhouted against the grey sky - Ah, the classic British summer - then he spotted a kestrel, and his heart fell momentarily, for as close as the bird of prey was, the pidgeon didn't stand a chance.

Hello?

No interception; brief, bloody, a squawk of surprise. None of that, just both birds flying in the same direction like the best of buddies, as if drawn...his hand raised the sonic screwdriver, blue tip flashing it's LED as it detected whatever was assaulting the Doctor's more sensitive hearing.

"Oh clever. Clever!" He looked down at Rose. "We have to get under cover. Our old friends are using a variant of ultrasound to draw all the birds in. And the only reasons I can think off, are KFC Bargain Bucket, or to upgrade them. If it's the latter, and I'm leaning towards that right now, then they'll have aerial surveillance up over London in no time. We need to get to mobile transport, or somewhere underground. Or there may be something we can use at the Torchwood Tower of this Earth?"

"I don't mean to be a bother, but you wouldn't be the Doctor would you?" Bryce called out the man he was so sure was the person he'd been looking for. "'cause if you are, I've some things to show you..."

The time lord looked across at the young lad with the sawn-off shotgun who had bawled across to them, and waved an invitation across to him. "As long as they include a place we can hole up, lead on, young sir."

IC: Jay Bryce
Earth Prime

"As long as they include a place we can hole up, lead on, young sir." So he was the Doctor. After all this time, he'd finally found him. With his help, Bryce would definatly be able to warn Earth before the Robots Attacked. Oh Frag.

Anyhow, he had the Doctor. That was a plus for all the bloody good it did him. They could fight the buggers, though Bryce wasn't sure what you shot at robots with. He know take out a legion of Vampires, a horde of Werewolves, hell, even a coven of witches, but he'd never thought to prepare for robots...no matter.

"If you don't mind bomb shelters, I've just the place." Bryce stated cheerfully as he spun on his heels and hurridly left the alley way in the direction of his home...his bunker. They were lucky, it was just a few blocks away, and in a matter of moments they would be there.

The bunker had been built many years ago, as one of many "Secret" Royal Bomb Shelters during Wolrd War II. Being unused, and like most government secret's a well known location, the Bomb Shelter, and the flat atop it were both sold. Later, the two were split, Bryce purchasing the lower portion under the table, and doing his best to hide the transaction. The upper half was purchased by a elderly, blind, deaf, and mute man so Bryce never worried about someone finding him in the Bunker. Bryce had made quite a place for himself down there, from state of the art computers, doors, locks, and other technology, to years worth of food, water and, most recently, the addition of a microwave (which he only recently was able to prove did not work as a government listening device.).

He could see the corner flat up ahead, run down, like many others of the block, and he hurried ahead, checkign over his shoulder continually, to make sure they were comming for one thing, and for another to make sure they weren't secretly plotting to kill him in his sleep. He was sure people did that everytime he turned his back.

It was, in his studies, that 87.7 percent of people have thought of a way to kill you. Of course, 89.976 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot, so we all know how far those numbers will fly.

Jack

Jack watched the young man run off into the alley. He turned back to the Doctor, smiled, and said, "I've already died once 'cause of bravery. I'd really to like to postpone a second experience, if it's all the same to you."

And with that, he ran off, hoping the guy wasn't too far ahead.

Unit 001x

Unit 001x's sensors flared to life, and he surveyed his location. He was, of course, only a he because of simplicity's sake; by now, he was no more than a tool of control.

001x had been brought into existence not three hours ago, as part of the Cybus Initiative. He was the prototype of the new line, the elite - the new Cybermen, leaders of a different kind.

His carapace was thicker, and his height nearly eight feet, and atop his shoulders his armour extended upwards an extra foot. His feet were huge, and left distinctive two-pronged prints. His helm was more angular, and, some would say, artistic - the effect of which was like staring into the maw of a horrible beast.

He was the future. And he set to work.

If the Cyberleader were human he might almost watch in satsifaction as the flood of birdsmade panic on thes treets below. Humans ran to get out of thew ay of the flood of feathers and excrement those birds visited on them. Above was as below. Zeppelins and airships cast about in some panic, trying to figure out how to escape the torment of thosuands of birds. The birds flooded into the tube station and into the conversion unit. The metal tools went to work immediately.
The birds were far easier than the humans. Fewer resources needed to be consumed, and the Central Nervous system was far simpler. IN only two minuties he saw a dozen active Avian Cybermats on his HUD. In another minute, there were nearly thirty.
Before the blood was even adequately swept away, the Cybermats were assigend tasks. They soared into the air on tiny turbofan engines and razor wings and set out across the city, documenting and gathering intelligence and information.
As his minions swept outwards, Cyberleader1 noted that the police response was as expected. They had already formally requested the Army to intervene in a situation that they could not handle. They were responding as predicted.
Police were cordoning off the area, their vehicles splattered with Bird Droppings, trying to move civilians away. They were blocking some streets, while clearing others.
Distantly, one Cybermat noted that army units began to move into the City. Warrior IFV's and Challenger Main Battle Tanks and heavy trucks rumbled down the ancient streets, moving into position to assault the Cyber stronghold. Above, the RAF was conducting reconnaissance flights.
Cyberleader1 had predicted the response accurately. Instead of sending in SAS teams to reconnoiter on the ground and perhaps sabotage the Cybermen in Trafalgar square, they were comitting their heavy assault now.
Another priority one signal shot into his mainframe: X PROTOTYPE ACTIVE. AWAITING INSTRUCTIONS.
"Excellent." Cyberleader1 intoned. "Begin phase 2. X-type units to receive priority 1 for resources. Procure human subjects for upgrading into Strike team X. Caution and Subterfuge to be utilized. The Humans must not learn of the X-project yet."
Cyberleader1 turned and marched away to prepare for phase 2. 11-38 and a few other select untis followed.

London

Rose looked on as their problems were wrapped up for them by the sudden appearance of a complete stranger who, remarkably, hadn't been herded off and cyber-ized. Cyber-nated. Whatever. Figuring that anyone Jack trusted was likely to be a dangerous enemy or at least highly dodgy, she defaulted to companion mode and looked to the Doctor for help.

"Doctor, can we trust him?" she asked.

A firm believer in actions speaking louder than words, he just flashed a smile of reassurance, and bolted after the young man, firmly expecting Rose and her cohorts to follow.

A bomb shelter sounded like the perfect place to regroup and make plans.

11-38

Unit 11-38 immediately linked with Prototype Unit 001x. It performed a remote scan on the newly Upgraded unit and found its body operating within optimal parameters.
"Prototype Unit is to begin superivising the gathering and upgrading of any obsolete life forms in the vicinity. Humans are to be considered Priority 1 for upgrade. In order to minimise resistance, suggest you offer a truce to the defeated units. If they surrender they will not be harmed. Once they have yielded, they are to be converted into additional X-Typed units."

11-38 located an out of service upgrading terminal and estabilshed a connection to its main power generator. In less than a second, it had broadcasted the neccessary codes to overload the generator and cause the building to explode... which it did. In a most distracting way.
Immediately, reports flooded 11-38's brain as aerial Cybermats observed the obsolete military forces begin advancing closer to the terminal housing the X-Type units. The humans would be lured into the open, where their archaic weaponry would be further reduced in effectiveness. And where their minds, fueled by fear and desperation and anxiety, would turn against them.
THIS was the fatal flaw of humanity. Its reckless, unordered thoughts made the humans predictable, weak.

The only way to prevent them from destroying themselves in fear would be to remove all of the things which caused this fear. Pain, anger, happiness, love - all of them eventually led to fear, and frustration and death.

11-38 considered the duty the Cybermen had. Were it able to, it would have felt a glowing pride where its heart had once beaten. Instead, the Cyberman merely accepted its duty and would perform that duty to the best of it's ability.
Humanity must be upgraded. Whether it wishes to or not, it must become like us.

The Cybermen of assault team alpha had done an efficient job of fortifying Trafalgar. Much of the City of London's armed response was coming from Challenger tanks and Warrior IFV's. They held back a good kilometer or so from the square as they planned and prepared to assault. Much of the city had gone into lockdown. There was still some road traffic further out from the center the city, and the Tube system was being routed around the problem area. Commerce; the lifeblood of Great Britain, still flowed in the mother city.
Cyberleader1 surmised that the reason for the delay of the Army attack was due to waffling on the part of the Government. No doubt extensive damage woudl be done to Trafalgar square. They mightwnell be debating whether it was worth it or not to send in tanks.
Cyberleader1 stepped onto his transport, 11-38 and his personal guard behind him.
"Strike team alpha is to hold until total deletion. Continue upgrading of captured popualce in Trafalgar square."
He turned to a communications console where a Cyberman sat stiffly before it. The Console and the chair was of course designed for humans, Cybermen had no need to sit.
"Awaken strike forces Gamnma and Beta. Initiate preparation for Phase 2."
AT his words, the transport, outwardly a common 2 1/2 tonne truck, began to roll towards the true objective.

Bryce's Bunker

Rose sighed, shruggged her shoulders and followed the Doctor, motioning for her Torchwood companions to follow. After all, what choice did she have? The city was now crawling with cybermen, the Doctor and Jack were willing to trust this total stranger, and she, quite frankly, had no way of getting her full team back to Earth One.

Her eyes took in the paranoid expanse of the secret bunker. Totally weird. This Jay Bryce was certainly a character.

Getting into the place from the street was pretty unusual. The terraced house had dark green railings outside, whitewashed steps leading up to the first floor hallway presumably where you would be able to access the normal flats, but from the street, slick scarlet-painted steps went down to the basement flat, the door arch outside occupied above their heads by dirty, presumably long abandoned cobwebs, and, looking a little out of place, a miniature CCTV lens looking down at whoever was on the gime-encrusted WELCOME mat.

Bryce put in a key to push open the normal looking front door, but immediately beyond, a matt black door of burnished steel required bypassing a blue-lit palm scanner set into the wall.

?I bet the Gas Man is impressed when he comes round to read the meter.? He quipped, as the young stranger led them deeper into his ?bunker?. ?I assume it is electro-magnetically shielded from conventional spy satellites??

â??I bet the Gas Man is impressed when he comes round to read the meter.â?? the Doctor quipped, as Bryce led them deeper into his â??bunkerâ??. â??I assume it is electro-magnetically shielded from conventional spy satellites?â??

"O'course. What bloody moron wouldn't 'lectro-magnetically shield 'er from those MI-5 buggers. Always gotta eye in they sky, they do. Watch the trip wire there..." He said, comming off of the long stairway, taking a few steps and one exagerated step, making it clear he was stepping over the trip. "Can't be too careful 'round these parts anymo'e, not with the robots and aliens and what not. No offense there Mr. Doctor, sir." He said glancing back.

It wasn't long before they reached a second door, identical as the first, though this one required a retinal scan. After placing his eye to the protruding laser-camera-thingy-majigger, the door slid away and the group was escorted into a luxurious chamber, that vaugly resembled a large sitting room. A long stretch of the left hand wall was filled with computers and other fancy looking equiptment, all scrolling numbers and letters and pictures across their screens. An observant eye would have noted many of the computers showed documents pertaining to the Doctor, as well as a good few to do with Robots, and one highly debated peice about the monarchy being a long line of werewolves.

Along the right stretch of wall was a kitchen, complete with microwave, three coffe makers, a door labeled in big red stencil FREEZER, a large oven, and two economy sized stainless steel sinks. In the center of the room sat quite a few large sofas, and recliners, each looking extremely fluffy and inviting, all of which faced where they had entered. Directly across the room was a set of three doors, two of which were labeled in the same stencil as the Freezer. The furthest most left was the Loo, as if was aptly labeled, while the middle door read armory. The thrid door bore no label, and in fact opened into a hall way with many more doors leading to separate areas of the bunker, and quite a few escape routes. Finally, the group noted the wall through which they had came. The entire wall, save for that space needed for the door, was covered with medium sized tv's, each on a differnt channel, many playing grainly, blurry video of paranormal events.

"Do come in and make yourselves comfortable. We're perfectly safe here for a bit."

"O'course. What bloody moron wouldn't 'lectro-magnetically shield 'er from those MI-5 buggers. Always gotta eye in they sky, they do. Watch the trip wire there..." The young man said as he dismounted a long staircase.

The Doctor breezed over the wire and kept pace with the homeowner. Maybe one of his previous incarnations would have stopped to make sure everyone negotiated it safely, but if these people were going to beam through dimensional barriers like it didn't matter, they could jolly well handle a dark corridor.

"Can't be too careful 'round these parts anymo'e, not with the robots and aliens and what not. No offense there Mr. Doctor, sir." The speaker glanced back towards him.

"No 'Mister', no 'Sir', just, The Doctor. Oh, and none taken, I assure you."

There was a retinal scan, then they were led into a luxurious chamber with several deep-filled sofas that just beckoned to the Time Lord. He leapt on the nearest one, kicking his shoes off.

"Ahh. Jack and I have been walking round London you have no idea how long. Well actually," He re-appraised, looking at Bryce through new eyes. "you have been following me, so maybe you do."

"Do come in and make yourselves comfortable. We're perfectly safe here for a bit."

"So, do you have a name, Starshine? The host at the very least should identify himself." Then the Doctor noticed the computers bearing his name. "Mickey the Idiot." He muttered thoughtfully, shaking his head, "What did you do with the disc I gave you?"

After his first trip with Rose, he had given Mickey, her loyal but Earthbound paramour, a disk to wipe any mention of him from the world's internet and databases. From the information and sources this new character had managed to access, Mickey had probably used it as a coaster for his tea.

Brightening again, he looked towards Rose: "Where is Mickey-boy anyway?"

Jack grinned, before bowing gracefully.

"That's me - Captain Jack Harkness." he said with a laugh.

Looking around the room, he saw newpaper clippings from Cardiff, and a paparazzi-style shot of the old mayor. Next to those were blurred images of a tall man with big ears. The picture was old, and in front of him was a boy wearing a gas mask. That looked familiar - a devilishly handsome man could be seen in the background.

She smiled at the memories they brought back.

"I left Mickey back on Earth One." she told the Doctor, moving from the screens to the clippings board, standing next to Jack. "He's the leader of the Preachers now, and they've nearly wiped out the cybermen."

11-38 accessed the CCTV recordings for London. It watched as the human resistance gradually moved closer and closer to the heart of London, leaving the vicinity where Phase 2 would begin empty.
11-38 stood immobile, surrounded by several other units. The vehicle they stood in swerved and bumped as its human driver, brandishing those new and improved EarPods he had won in a postal competition he had never entered, carried them to their destination.
Servos in the legs of the Cybermen meant they withstood most of the turbulence, only swaying slightly rather than being thrown against the wall.

As the vehicle neared its objective, 11-38 opened a command window and began issuing orders.
"Human resistance has moved into the appropriate location. Activate all sleeper units within the Torchwood Tower."

On every floor of the massive Canary Wharf, crates began twitching. Scurrying sounds echoed through ventilation shafts. And suddenly masses of Cybermats broke out. After spending months and months in hibernation, awaiting activation, the miniature cyborgs were pristine, undamaged, and deadly.
Dogs coated in metal, with literally razor sharp teeth ran across every floor, penning the human staff into corners. Metal cats leapt across consoles, activated their override programmes and began accessing the Vault.

Underground, the huge doors to the Vault slid open, and a loud stomping sound could be heard resonating within the chamber. Gradually, two lines of figures could be discerned against the darkness. Tall, steel figures with handlebars on their heads. Cybermen.
In the upper levels of the Tower, machinery hummed to life. A Cybermat (previously a dog before its Upgrade) snapped at a young woman. Terrified, the woman leapt backwards and leaned against the metal wall behind her.
With a hiss, the wall slid upwards causing her to drop back. She found herself lying on a metal table as above her the celing split open, and Thymek arms, equipped with saws, lasers and all manner of surgical implements, dropped towards her.

Outside Canary Wharf, several trucks pulled to a steady stop and opened their rear doors. A ramp was extended and the Cybermen began moving into the Tower.
As 11-38 emerged, it opened a link to its superior. "Leader, all units have activated within Torchwod-1. Infiltration was successful. Phase 2 now in operation. "

GEneral Sir Colin Redgrave studied the map adn the satellite downloads one final time before giving the word.
He was nervous. He was a professional, though, so he was confident. BUt what made him anxious was how different the Cybermen were from any other foe he'd faced: Argentinian, Iraqi, Serbian...
Unlike any of the past foes, The Cybermen would never be afraid. They would not, could not be afraid. No mater how many the British Army "Deleted" they woudl never stop. A completely implacable foe. Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" was out the window with these metal monstrosities. So no amount of "shock and Awe", Blitzkrieg, or any amount of demoralizing attack would cause the Cybermen to break. They must be eliminated swiftly, decisively, and by any means necessary. If not, everything he loved in this country of his, nay, everything in the WORLD, would fall to relentless silver marching.
"Begin the attack." He said.
The Challenger Main battle tanks began to roll towards the square.

IC: Cyberleader1
Cyberleader1 Stepped intot eh torchwood tower. he carried two monstrous rifle-type weapons, reverse-engineered from captured Preacher units. Accompanying him were nearly one hundred Cybermen. Some of them were also armed with rifles, some wtih just their Microwave pulse disruptors.
as they stepped into the reception area, the Commandos lying in wait struck.
They opened fire with theri G36 assault rifles. They had been expecting Islamic Terrorists, not Cybermen. The teflon-tipped bullets spanged harmlessly off the Cybermen's armor.
"Delete, Delete." Came the monotonous war cry.
Cyberleader's targeting system tracked targets two at a time. the rifles sprayed what looked like triple-threaded bolts of lightning. they undulated and curled roudn each other as they streaked towards their targets, immolating them with blue fire.
A cyberman next to Cyberleader1 exploded. His threat asessment noted a mark 19 grenade launcher, capable of firing 300 grenades per minute. it was trying to take him out.
An emergency signal was sent and two cybermen stepped into the line of fire, taking the grenades meaant for Cyberleader1. They burst with electronic cries of alarm. And then 6 energy rifles and about fifteen microwave pulse-disruptors turned the Mark 19 and it's operator to slag.
The Commando's were falling back now, most of them deleted. They were trying to retreat behind a blast door. A few suicidally charged the Cybermen to buy a few seconds. They were mercilessly electrocuted in brief hand-to-hand exchanges.
The balst door descended. A Cyberman caugh it, trying to brace it so his comrades could get under it, but the door was too strong and the Cyberman did not have proper leverage. the Door came crashing down, crushing the Cyberman, but not killing it. It flailed about with its one free hand, utterling electronic gurgles as it's systems malfunctioned.
Cyberleader1 turned to 11-38.
"Take two squads and find an alternate route into the Tower. I will supervise assembly of the Light Gun."

Atop the building, a small bird pecking at the concrete took no notice of the falling rain. It looked up, and cocked it's small head to the side at some unheard sound.

The bird exploded in a puff of feathers as 001x burst from the roof beneath it. He landed with a crunch, the cement cracking beneath his feet. CHARACTER SHEETS - GM APPROVED, within seconds actually?

Name: "Lauren"
Nickname: "TJ (Torchwood Juniors)"
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Species: (Human)

Personality: Bolshy, defensive, cheeky to the point of rudeness. Has a good heart somewhere in there. Very intelligent, but feigns ignorance sometimes. Terribly uncouth.
Appearance: Caucasian, brown hair tied back in a ponytail. School uniform: tight white blouse with sleeves scrunched up around elbows, blak-and-red-striped tie, grey wrap skirt, opaque black leggings.
Weapons: EMP rifle, and anything she can get her hands on.

Bio: Who knows how Torchwood chooses it's operatives? Was about to nick some lipstick in a superstore when the Auton Invasion brought shop mannikins to life, and stood up to them so well that a Torchwood scout recommended her to the secret agency. At the very least she would serve as a good representative to the aliens, probably while the grown-ups get their turbolaser together.

Based on Catherine Tate's "Lauren" sketch character: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rnocm6Msz-E

IC: Lauren/ ?TJ?, Torchwood Tower, near one of the weapons vaults.

It was a standoff that was being repeated and played out all over the city, a tall, robust Cyberman, and the relatively weak human before them, about to be upgraded or deleted.

Unit 107 looked down upon the human girl with blank eye-holes, and waited. If he had the capacity to feel any such thing, he would have detected control of the situation slipping away like water through a sieve.

?Is you See Threepio, sir?? Lauren enquired, as if the distant gunfire, screams, and Cybermen monotones, were of little import.

?You will be upgraded.?

?But is you See Threepio??

?You will cease such questioning.?

?But can you speak six million languages, sir?? The girl asked with a tone that mixed innocence, curiosity, and downright insolence in one oral cocktail. She continued backing up slowly, slow enough not to escalate the situation, but enough to get onto the safe side of the blast door. ?Can you um, program binary loadlifters, sir? Is you See Threepio, sir??

?I am not??

Just as Lauren pulled level with the door frame, in the tiled corridor beyond the Cyberman, a small metal-covered animal, probably a dog, scampered around the corner, attempted to brake on it?s metal paws, and skidded into the far wall like she did sometimes on Podracer: Life in the Fast Lane.

?Is that your dog, sir? Does he do tricks, sir??

?You will surrender.?

The dog, or ?cybermat? to use the technical term, arrived, razor teeth snapping in the overhead lighting, and yapped threateningly up at her.

Lauren looked pointedly down at the thing. ?Am I bovvered?? Still retreating beyond the door, but close enough to the emergency release, she indicated her own face, voice getting higher and more shrilled as she built the adrenalin for her next move. ?Look! Face! Bovvered? No!?

She jumped back and hit the release, the heavy steel door slamming down to pin the cybermat as it leapt after her.
Sparks flew and smoke writhed as the thing struggled in vain to free itself, but the major trouble was caused by the door not landing flush with the floor.

Unit 107 must have bent stiffly, for she could see the thick fingers of one artificial hand curling under the lower edge, preparing to lift.

She looked around, and saw a rack of the new EMP rifles on the left wall, grabbed one and dove to the floor, shooting a bolt of light green electro-magnetic pulse energy into the Cyberman?s ankles, then waited patiently for the ?timber? moment.

With a titanic crash, the Cyberman clattered into view, his face looking into the wide circular barrel of her gun. It had fallen on it?s own gun arm, and struggled to bring it to bear.

?You will be deleted.? Unit 107 promised in a mournful monotone.

The Light Gun was a towed artillery piece develeoped at the British Armamnet and Research Establishment at Ft. Halstead in Kent. It was designed to be a very light artllery piece that culd be towed by a vehicle as small as a Land Rover or Light Truck. It could even be transported by a Puma Helicopter to trouble areas. It was ideal for low-level conflict and brushfire wars. True to it's name, it was manufactured from light alloys that keeps the weight down. It had been a magnificent, and one fo the last, towed artillery pieces in the west. It was mothballed in the early 2000's and went into storage or was sold to other nations, Britain favorign to go with completely SP guns for the time being.
Acquiring one of these weapons was almost laughably easy for the Cybermen, although it would have made Whitehall blanch had it known. The Gun had been purchased from a Quartermaster in the British Army for the price of a small suitcase of South African conflict Diamonds. The Quartermaster had not konwn it was going to be used by the Cybermen, as it had been purchased using a third-party human broker.
Cyberleader1 had casually shot out the CCTV cameras in the ante-room strewn with the corpses of commandos, as a panel truck backed into the shattered doorway. Cybermen emerged and began unloading the components of the artillery piece.
Cyberleader had anticipated the need for such a measure. Naturally, the retreating commandos had disabled the door control, and now the door was sealed. There were as many things that the British Government wanted to keep in Torchwood as they wanted to keep out.
The Cybermen finished unloading the components of the Light Gun and began to assemble it. The barrel was pointed directly at the offending door. Another two cybermen brought forth two crates of Ammunition for the weapon.
The gun began to take shape after scant three minutes.
The Cyberleader tightbeamed a message to his subordinates. "Speed is essential."
He then immediately tightbeamed two other commands.
to 11-38: "SitRep"
To 001x: "Progress Report"

TAG: 11-38, 001x

Note: The Light Gun is a real artillery piece. I took some liberties with it's history, however, since it is strongly implied in "Rise of the Cybermen" that Britain is now a Constitutional Republic, precluding the title of "royal" in "Royal Armament and Research Establishment". I simply replaced it with "British".

PS: Happy Thanksgiving to all our American Players and Readers!

IC: 11-38

11-38 and 12 additional Cybermen stood atop a small building which stood across from Torchwood Tower.
With a hiss of coolant, 11-38's torso head slowly turned to the left as a double decker bus slowly bumped into the wall of Canary Wharf. A second bus pulled behind it and positioned itself in front of 11-38.

The other units stepped down onto the vehicle and marched towards the wall. 11-38 watched as the first unit stopped at the wall.
"32-65, recalibrate microwave emitter to fire continuous pulse."
33-65 clanged its fist onto its chest and began cutting through the wall. Once it had finished, its steel fist broke it down. Bullets began ricocheting off the steel bodies of the Cybermen.
"Threat assessment: minimal danger. Delete all rogue elements. Capture those who surrender and secure them."
Red flashes of light flew into the building, silencing the Torchwood soldiers and the steel beings strolled into the room. Several of the soldiers, and all of the less military personnel, surrendered and were shot with a minimal power pulse to temporarily incapacitate them.
As 11-38 stepped into the room, a tightbeam transmission flashed through its mind.

SitRep.

"Second level of Tower breached. Dispatching one squad to secure lower levels and minimise potential threat to CyberLeader1. I, and the remaining squad will hold this floor. Captured 13 humans who are compatible for upgrade."

IC: General Sir Colin Redgrave, Battle at Trafalgar Square

The Challenger tanks rolled forward, their main armaments firing into the buildings around Trafalgar Square. From various windows, red darts of lights zipped out, spanging into the tank's armour, snapping sparks off the hull.
The Warrior IFV's rolled up behind them, breaking into the weakened buildings, and disgorging their complements of heavily armed soldiers to clear the building.
The battle was going well. Sattelite uplinks and sketchy reports indicated that the army was clearing away the Cybermen, and though they were resisting, the outcome was not in doubt.
Afterwards he would have to prepare for the mixture of glowing public priase from President Harriet Jones, and private rebuke for wrecking so much of this historic hub of London.
Redgrave knew itw as necessary though to ensure destruction of the Cybermen. 'till every trace was expunged' he thought, ripping off Churchill.
Suddenly a Lieutenant rushed up.
"Sir! New reports! A large contingent of Cybermen has been spotted at Canary Wharf! Intial reports indicate that the Cyberleader is there!"
Redgrave's blood ran as ice. Cyberleader had duped him. He'd committed his force to taking out the Cybermen at Trafalgar Square, when in reality, the Cybermen's target had been Canary Wharf.
Redgrave knew taht it would take at least two hours to pull out of this battle and rush to the new trouble area.
"New Orders. One battalion to stay in place and pin these Cybermen down. Everyone else needs to be on their way to Canary Wharf as soon as possible."
"Sir!" the Lieutenant rushed away.
"fool me once..." Redgravge whispered, recriminating himself.

IC:11-38

11-38 stood completely motionless in the centre of the room, along with the remaining units. They had achieved their goal (for the time being) and until CyberLeader1 reached their location, they had nothing else to do.
However, though it's body remained still, 11-38's mind was busy scanning data streams.

Suddenly, one of them sparked its interest. It magnified the window in its view and observed the action.
It was Trafalgar Square. The Cybermen had been pinned down by the human military and were almost depleted... just as CyberLeader1 had planned.
11-38 felt its body sway momentarily. Something was not right. There was only one battalion remaining, and the others were - where?
11-38 began rapidly scanning CCTV feeds. Images flickered through its mind faster than a human eye could register them, but the Cyberman was able to easily distinguish between them.
As the blur of data flashed through the Upgraded brain, 11-38 found the feed it was searching for. Several military units, consisting of tanks (Threat assessment: high), soldiers (Threat assessment: Moderate - Minimal), and several of the Preachers (Threat assessment: Moderate - High) were slowly but surely making their way towards Torchwood Tower.
As one the Cybermen in the room turned to the hole they had cut in the wall and stomped towards it. The metal men stopped in front of it and trained their ocular sensors on the slowly approaching army.

"Leader, the rogue elements have detected our plan. Moderate force approaching. Recommendation: escort all personnel to upper levels and begin Emergency Upgrading."
