It may sound weird, but I find myself listening to film soundtracks more often than any other type of music. In fact, most of my CDs *are* soundtracks. And I prefer instrumental score CDs over those soundtracks with songs that have nothing to do with the movies. Here are the soundtracks that are in my collection:

    Aladdin (Alan Menken)
    Amistad (John Williams)
    Banjo Kazooie (Unknown)
    Batman & Robin (Various)
Empire of the Sun (John Williams)
    E.T: The Extraterrestrial (John Williams)
Final Fantasy Anthology-Bonus Music CD (Nobuo Uematsu)
    Greatest Hits: 1969-1999 (John Williams)
    Hercules (Alan Menken)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (John Williams)
    Jurassic Park (John Williams)
    Pocahontas (Alan Menken)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (John Williams)
    Saving Private Ryan (John Williams)
    Schindler's List (John Williams)
Seven Years in Tibet (John Williams)
    Space Jam (Various)
    Spawn (Various)
Star Wars: A New Hope-Special Edition (John Williams)
Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace (John Williams)
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi-Special Edition (John Williams)
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back-Special Edition (John Williams)
    Titanic (James Horner)
The Lion King (Elton John, Hans Zimmer)
    The Patriot (John Williams)
    Top Gun (Various)

So, are there any other soundtrack fans out there?

The only soundtracks I own are the Star Wars ones, and Batman and Robin, just 'cos it's got a cool Smashing Pumpkins song on it, and I got it on special for like $10.

But I always seem to watch movies, and note how cool the music is in it (American Beauty, Any Given Sunday) but I never do anything about it.

I remember there was once an episode of Suddenly Susan where this nerdy guy had nothing but soundtracks in his house. Greatest hits of John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, etc, etc....

I have a few soundtracks, but most of them were bought because there's a Cure song on it:

-A Clockwork Orange (fav movie & soundtrack)
    -Run Lola Run
    -The Crow
-Judge Dredd (terrible movie and horrible song by the Cure, but when you're a fan...)
    -Orgazmo
    -More (Pink Floyd)
    -others with 2-Pac, Dre, etc

Yeah, a good portion of my music collection (CD's and vinyl) consists of soundtracks. However, I have more jazz-based scores (Henry Mancini, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Lalo Schifrin) than the John Williams/James Horner type of stuff.

(And I have NO movie soundtracks that are made up of pre-existing pop songs. I detest that kind of movie soundtrack very deeply.)

So far I only have three CDs and they're all movie soundtracks:

The Red Violin - John Corigliano
    Titanic - James Horner
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - John Williams

In addition I also collect the music from anime movies such as Laputa, Nausicaa and Totoro; and some of the tracks from the Final Fantasy series by Nobuo Uematsu.

The first paragraph of SOTS' post is how I'm like. But my collection is very small in comparison.

    The Godfather
Star Wars: A New Hope SE
    The American President
    John Williams Greatest Hits 1969-1999
    Armaggedon (don't ask)

I only have a couple of soundtracks, more than half of which are SW. You have some awesome albums in your collection... I've been meaning to get a hold of the best of John Williams cd's. Some awesome music there...

I listen to movie soundtracks though I don´t have that many. I got some of John Williams' works and a couple of others. Right now I can´t stop listening to the Gladiator soundtrack.

Aside from Star Wars, my favorite soundtracks that I have at the moment are:
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
Ben-Hur (seems to have inspired JW)
    The City of Lost Children
many by Mark Isham including The Beast & The Moderns
lots by Terence Blanchard (mostly Spike Lee films)
    Howards End
a collection of film music by The Passengers (aka U2 and Brian Eno)

I also like music that sort of precursors soundtracks, so-called "program music", like Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique and Also Sprach Zarathustra by Strauss (which was used in 2001).

So, all in all, soundtracks are kind of boring ;-)

    be seeing you
