Incidentally, my university's library system subscribes to Playboy as well as many other publications that some people consider offensive. I don't like having Playboy in my library, but I can't object to its presence. I'm a little disturbed by the precedents that would be set if it were banned. Libraries are supposed to be a center of learning and open discussion of thought. Censorship of any kind has no place in the ivory tower.

My university library subscribes to it too - but to read it you have to go to the "special reading room". It's a seperate room where you can view certain publications - but you are not allowed to leave that room with them.

It is a place for rare/delicate/adult reading material.

As for how I know this. They happened to have all the Star Wars comics there and I decided to go there one day and read all of them.
