I sometimes put most of my hair in a ponytail & have a little braid somewhere, usually behind my ear. Unfortunately, my daughter finds the braid convenient to chew on when I'm holding her. (An unforeseen hazard of being both a parent & a Star Wars fan.;) ) I've seen some images, such as in the comics & book covers, where padawans are portrayed without braids; is that just artistic license or is the braid optional?

Ah Sith don't have no stinkin' braids! : ) But my last haircut was a bob with a longer section in the middle, forming an 'm' shape in the back so if I wear pigtails I get accused of either being a Padawan or having a mullet. I Don't know what's worse!

I have a real one. It is as long as my real hair.
I have only had it about a year (cause i discovered star wars last year ;) )
I keep getting 'Is that your Real hair?' 'Did you do that?' 'How long did it take?'

How are Padawan braids meant to be down?

Thanks for the beewax tip :D

Only last year? Where have you been? ;)

    Good photos, Kooky!

If I'm short for time I'll put my hair in a ponytail and just plait a very thin section of the tail...if I've got more time I'll take a small section from behind my right ear...here's mine...I had beads on the end that day, and was wearing a SW Tshirt!

    No scissor threats at me.
When I had a braid behind each ear, my apartment roomies used to gently grasp each one and use them like reigns. Good thing all of them are scifi fans espcially Star Wars.

I have dangly earrings at the ends which jungle softly instead of beads (Hadn't found ones I like and don't know how to affix them.) cats love swatting those around.

Thanks! :) I tied some multicoloured wool to a very small hair scrunchie and then threaded the beads on the end of the wool, knotting the end of the wool so the beads don't fall off! Then I just tie the scrunchie around the piece of hair I'm using for the braid and using the wool as one strand of the braid just keep plaiting until the beads are at the end of the hair! You might have to experiment until you find the right length, but once it's made you can re-use it as often as you like!

If you've got an inch or two of hair left when you reach the beads, you just loop it around itself and tie off with a bit of thread or elastic...

    LOL!![face_blush]

When I do mine, I always have it either directly behind my right ear, or coming out the top of my pony tail and dangling over my right shoulder! :)

Very cool . I hadn't seen a hair scrunchie that small. My braid isonly maybe an 1/8 of an inch wide.

Yeah, mine's very thin, too...about the thickness of Obi Wan's in TPM!

I don't use the big fabric scrunchies, just the mini stretchy ones that are maybe an inch in diameter when new...

If you first tie the beads to the end of the thread rather than your hair, (knot the end of the thread to keep the beads on!) and THEN braid the thread into your hair, there's NO way that your bag will pull the beads off...;)

Trust me - I have my bag over my shoulder and I've never lost a bead yet! [:D]

I like your costume Magenta Moonshadow, especially the bright cloak. It's really different. Was there a reason you picked red (or maybe it's magenta, hard to tell on my computer)? Your lightsaber is nice too. Better than the plastic toy ones (all 4 of them, one of each color) that my husband uses. ;)

Thank you, ishtar![:D] My cloak is a rust colour, it looks slightly redder in the pic than it really is! LOL!!

It's only a temporary cloak - I'd never made a Jedi cloak before, and I didn't want to waste good material and only botch it up, so I found a rust-coloured double duvet cover in a local charity shop for just £5! It gave me plenty material to practice with, and I was pleased with the way that it turned out!

When I see some 'proper' material, I won't mind buying it as I know I can make it now...:)

I am thinking about starting one, but I don't know how to. I have three questions about this.
    1. When I get a haircut, how much should be not cut?
    2. Where does it go?
    3. What is the braid? Is it just a regular ponytail braid?

It should start just behind the top of your right ear - it's just a very thin braid!:)
