Just humour me here... how do we know if someone is truely a VIP or not?

I mean, if I were GL, would I need to email with my official <god@lucasfilm.com> email address? Or would my IP be traced back to Skywalker Ranch?

I mean, seriously, what happens when you want to recognise a VIP like GL, does he have a pre-made user name or something?

I just want to know... it's late and I can't sleep because I was just wondering. Thanks for your time.

But seriously, before this gets locked, what's the process for a VIP to register?
Does a VIP even have to register?

How does the administration know if a VIP is who he/she claims to be anyway?

 

We confirm VIP's through their agents and/or IP and host address information. That's how we knew Peter Mayhew was the real thing.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't ISPs not supposed to give out personal information like that?

Also, what does an IP address prove?
I could be an employee of Lucasfilm, those having the same IP as everyone else...

Lastly, does the agent contact you or do you have to contact the agent?
When George-Lucas ( See above ) registered, did you go all ballistic?

Well I know one of the Mods (I think its The Gatherer but I could be wrong) has links to most of the Authors so thats how they get verified.

I remember when Chewie..I mean Mayhew first posted it took them awhile to verify it and he took quite a bit of flamming before they did.

Kind of makes you wonder exactly how frightened he would be if he could read some of the stuff in the AotC Forum.

We'll ask the potential VIP to send us contact information regarding their agent (although sometimes we may already have it), and make a few calls. We've had a few fake VIP's attempt to sneak in.

EDIT: Oh, and IP address information is not proof by itself, although it would certainly be more likely to find a LFL employee with a host address of ns.lucasfilm.com than podunk.k12.in.us

Actually, there are a couple of LFL people registered here (Ghent, Infinata).

Ghent is well-known from the get-go, but since Hidalgo chose Infinata instead of a more obvious name, he honestly could've posed as Lucas, had he been so inclined.

However, it would seem he's not the prankster sort.
