Per the title, this is something my father told me when I was a child. It does seem to have some truth:

When Sheev used force lightning in ROTS. Yes the lightning injured him, but he managed to recover a bit too quickly.

Yoda lifting the X-wing seemed to age him from the goofy character he was to a more decrepit character and then death. This is where my father explained this.

These are just examples of course. Any opinions?

    No...I really don't think so.

Yoda was already getting old. His goofiness was a front, imo.

He was probably depressed, too. I mean, if I were training a Skywalker, I'd get pretty down myself.

Using the Dark side is what takes life from the user. The Dark side of the Force is used to destroy life, but life creates the Force and makes it grow. So using the Force against its own source of power is like a starving snake trying to survive by eating its own tail; it's going to do bad things to the snake.

Well that's a very Jedi-like way of looking at it. :p

The Dark Side gave extended life to both Palpatine and Vader. Without it, they would have died.

Did they really have life? They looked more like zombies to me, and they knocked the Force out of balance. Not only did they live unnatural existences full of pain and hate, the galaxy around them also paid the price in misery and death.

Yes, but that wasn't all due to using the Dark Side. Palpatine was injured by his Force Lightning being reflected back on him and Vader...well....we all know what happened to Vader. I didn't feel it was too unnatural.

Hatred is the life of a Sith.

    Hatred is no life.

Oh, but it is! It fuels the user. Propels them into greatness!

I don't expect a Jedi to understand, though. *shrugs* ;)

I suspect we also define "greatness" differently.
