Ok so I have a work colleague who is a stand up comedian. She says: first, get to know some other stand up comics and sponge tips from them based on their experiences. Secondly go to lots of live shows where you will be performing so you know what to expect. Thirdly get as much initial experience in a "heckler" friendly venue so you get used to being heckled and learn how to respond or act when heckled- see point one above. Fourthly make sure your material is appropriate for the audience and event. Lastly test drive your material and ask for constructive feedback. If the feedback is that you're not funny then don't do stand up.

    Hope this helps.

If you look at the sort of things attributed to ghosts over the century, they have been of pretty steadily decreasing malevolence. I guess they don't mention that at Donald Trump rallies though, huh?

I was actually thinking of ice cream. But I will accept your second answer.

Still the caboose. As they are descended from the underworld, the prefer to subvert the natural order. Therefore, whereas the living prefer the first things, they prefer the last.

Jabba-wocky. If the underworld is indeed under, then how would they have descended from it.

Also many living people enjoy cabooses.

Also what about a coal hopper.

When have you ever heard of a pro-pollution ghost? What is it with you and coal today?

Also, yes I realize some people enjoy cabooses. Many are also goths and other subtypes of subversives. That all actually strengthens my point.

Many ghosts are Victorian! They probably feel comfortable around coal!

But more comfortable than in a caboose? Really?

Ender: The perpetuation of an inbred, historically racist, oppressive institution that shouldn't exist anymore?

You have given no compelling arguments as to why they'd find comfort in a caboose.

You have made no compelling argument against one. And apologies, I didn't realize that international law and norms of the conduct of war weren't "compelling" enough for you, Ivanka.

Wocky, what would a ghost from Denmark or the United Kingdom call their favourite train carriage?

I have made several compelling arguments I believe you'll find. A caboose has nothing for them. A nice coal hopper reminds them of their childhood in the streets of London and also provides them with ammunition to lob at any offending Ghostbusters who may assault them.

As to the ice cream. I don't get it.

Well to my question above yours, too; the term caboose, describing the last carriage on a train, is a term unique to North America and as such, young Victorian English ghosts would indeed be inclined towards a coal hopper for the reason you mentioned, as well as fond associations with Christmas when they received a lump of coal. They would not know the meaning of "caboose", unless they had served on a merchant ship.

Death has a long-standing association with coldness. Ice cream is cold. So they--unlike the living--enjoy it.

None of this has anything to do with stand-up. Wocky, you've told a couple of dad jokes. This is not material for a stand-up comedian.
