ST Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux) in the ST

Let him be as evil as he wants, just hopefully Johnson does not make him a cartoon character like JJ Abrahams, did.

 

With him missing from the final trailer I can still hope he's in the lead AT-M6 dressed something like this...

 

Yeah, he was my least favorite in the film. Broad characterizations (bordering on cartoonish) in Star Wars are fine *cough The Emperor cough* but that was such an on-the-nose caricature of a space Nazi that it took me out of the film.

 

I love his greasy ginger space Nazi insanity.

 

How can anybody be that demented, all the time. It is tiring, just watching it.

 

He's actually shocking accurate to many real-life fanatics. It's part of what I liked about his character.

 

There's someone on Twitter who will be very, very upset if that armour (or styled as same) appears without Julian Glover in it!

 

I hope he gets choked to death. Gleeson's delivery of

"Uthe the ventwal cannonth"

was embarrassing. As for the speech...

 

The speech was fantastic.

well hux has a zeal and mania about his views that few can understand and he maintains this intensity at all times apparently lol.

 

Hitler's speeches out of context seem very cartoonish as well (go watch one if you don't believe me). As do many despot's speeches. And that's part of the point. In-context, the over to top theatrical delivery helps to rile the crowd (who's already mostly on their side to begin with) up and play on their zeal.

Hux gives off that vibe as well.

 

Between some foreshadowing in the Phasma novel and, from what I've heard, the Captain Phasma comic miniseries...

I'm going to make the wild prediction that Hux will die, either in TLJ or IX, at Phasma's hand.

 

I loved Hux's evil speech in TFA.

 

Me too. It really disgusted me that the guy truly believed in what was happening and relished it.

 

I wouldn't be surprised, at this point, if one of the other villains killed him.

He hasn't even met or had a scene with any of the good guys yet.

Even Tarkin had scenes with Leia in ANH.

So Phasma, Kylo or Snoke?????

 

Well, he IS a space Nazi! I love that scene! He really chewed the scenery! It was magnificent!

I think that’s partly what some people are talking about. It’s an obvious, on-the-nose Hitler knock off. Just in English. And when you’re cribbing from the most evil man of the 20th century, it’s probably best to be more subtle. Either that, or model his speech on someone whose speeches are less well-known. Goebbels, Stalin, Mussolini, etc. Coupled with the salute after the speech, it just seemed a little lazy.

That said, for me it’s a very small nitpick about a film I like a lot.

 

I liked Hux. We never really had a character like him in a SW movie before-- a true fanatic. All the imperials officers, generals, etc, in the previous films seemed like normal people who just happened to be working for the empire. Hux was truly passionate about his job.

 

That is the most terrifying avatar I have ever seen. Please keep it.
