  1. A Message For Everyone:

TCW vs. Rebels debates are not allowed in the Television forum. As in, discussions that descend into TCW/Rebels bashing/gushing will be subject to Mod action. Contrasting the themes, story lines, characters, etc. between the shows is allowed (welcomed, even). "Versus" debates/arguments, however, are a deal-breaker.

As I was reading the various threads regarding the SW Holdiday Special, I was mentally assaulted by a long buried memory. As ridiculous as it sounds, I am positive the following actually existed, as I had not yet begun drinking or smoking weed at the age of 12.

Does anyone remember the episode of the Donny And Marie Show in summer of 1977 that featured a musical Star Wars review? I seem to remember the two siblings dressed as Luke and Leia, running across the gaudily designed stage. I remember a shoddy looking tube,(which I assume was supposed to be a "futuristic" elevator), which slid open to reveal a man dressed in a Han Solo outfit, wearing an incongrous looking NASA style space helmet, with Chewbacca behind him. When the helmet was removed, it was Kris Kristofferson(!) as Han, with scraggly gray beard and all. I also remember a chorus line of Stormtroopers, dancing and snapping their fingers doo wop style. And unless I am completely insane, Redd Foxx appeared as Obi-Wan. (No, I am not making this up). I think Vader and the droids were involved in some way as well.

Please, can someone verify the actual existence of this? Or has growing up in the seventies warped my brain? My wife is about to have me carted off to the banana factory. Thanks.

Strangly enough, Donnie and Marie accuratly predicted a major plot twist.....or did Lucas derive inspiration from this actual episode?

Would that make Leia or Luke a little bit country?

Ummm. the joke was that Donnie and Marie are brother and sister....just like Luke and Liea ended up beight.

I was just quoting the famous bit that they did in the 1970's

How do I not remember this? I used to watch Donny and Marie when I was little.

"Redd Fox stole the show with his rendition of Okey Ben Pinocchi"

rotfl! Looks like they predicted Obi-Wan's "fibbing" in a way too. (Pinocchi/Pinocchio ;) )
