ST DON'T MINIMIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF OUR HEROES IN THE ORIGINALS

The Rebels won...I'm hoping the plot doesn't minimize those accomplishments by saying that the Empire was strong in other parts of the Universe so was never defeated, that Emperor Palpatine survived, that Vader was cloned, etc.

I'm going to love seeing Han, Leia, and Luke together again, but I hope the plots move forward and not backward.

Even with destroying the Death Star, the Rebellion would need to recruit aid from entire systems to overtake the whole of the Empire. To say that it was signed, sealed and delivered after RotJ is stretching things to say the least.

That said, the Empire surviving does not minimize any accomplishments. There had to be reasonable leadership in the Empire that did not like to go along with what Palps and Vader were doing. I would even guess that there was parts of the Empire that did not even know.

 

Blowing up a Death Star and Emperor doesn't defeat the billions of troops scattered throughout the galaxy. It just makes it possible to win the war.
