STAR WARS fans were introduced to Count Dooku in ATTACK OF THE CLONES and in the movies, we know him only as a Sith. What was Dooku like in his days as a good Jedi, however? Was he a decent, compassionate, just man loved and respected by those who knew him?

Yes, He was considered by many to be one of the greatest Jedi of his Generation. He was the Master that trained Qui-Gon Jinn. To learn more about him it would be beneficial to read Legacy of the Jedi and Dark Rendezvous they probably give the best insight of Dooku.

Dooku was also considered a maverick within the Jedi Order. He never really fit into the mould - he specialised in Form II of lightsaber combat and he had that fancy-pants curvy lightsaber, of all things. :p Much of this he instilled into his padawan Qui-Gon Jinn, and we saw Qui-Gon showing this in TPM. :)

Why not ask Shelly Shapiro or Sue Rostini if they can schedule a book specifically about Dooku as an LSer.

ya, i'd like to see a novel about Dooku as a jedi... him, younger, with a green/blue(whatever they choose) lightsaber on the cover.....

Shelly Shapiro and Sue Rostini are the LucasFilm continuity editors (or something like that). They're not the authors. They authorise the books of the EU and find writers to write the books, OT, NJO, or PT. ;) :)

I think I read on Star Wars.com expanded universe he was at the last battle with the Mandolorions. Legacy of the Jedi is a good choice for anyone who wants to know more about Dooku.

Dooku was alaways an arrogant, driven, ambitious, materialistic snob.

The authors are usually approached by the editors of the overall EU storyline to write specific books, though, so it might be worth a try. I've heard they do reply to emails. I don't know about Dooku, though... Somehow he's more effective as a villain if he's more mysterious, IMO. Kind of like Vader; you can never see him the same after the PT.

But even as a Sith, I founf Dooku to be a respectable gentleman. When he was a Jedi, he was probably very much the gentleman, seeing as he is a count and all. I don't feel that Dooku would have turned say for the Emperor. Sure, he still would have become a leader of a revolution, but he would not become the murderor that he did.
