Dooku = Saruman. It's so obvious!

Just kidding. Well, sort of. I mean, they are played by the same guy, yeah, but I mean in terms of their character flaws. Someone in another thread pointed out how he felt that Dooku was really just trying to help the galaxy out, and then someone else pointed out that he was a sith. Duh. Well, here's my thought: it's probably not on purpose, but the characters of Dooku and Saruman are a LOT alike. Maybe he's more like gandalf, but turned bad. I guess that's saruman.

Anyway- the reason why I think this is that they all have good intentions to start out with. Saruman wants to default sauron, dooku wants to save the republic. Saruman wants to use the powers of evil to do it (i.e. orcs, etc.) while Dooku uses the dark side. The way it ties into Gandalf is that, when Frodo offers him the ring (in the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring), he says that the way to his heart would be "pity" (or something like that). What he meant was that he would use the evil power of the ring to heal the hurts of the world, but in the end it would get the better of him.

So maybe Dooku was really trying to fix things at the beginning, before he truly fell to the Dark Side (TM). Sort of like saruman.

Please keep this thread spoiler-free (that includes stuff released from the official site). thanks! :)

    just something i've noticed....
before the clonetroopers gets to the arena, dooku speaks to mace and says:
"surrender... and your life will be spared"
now in the extended edition of LOTR ROTK when he is on top of that tower isengard with grima,
    gandalf tells him the same:
"surrender... and your life will be spared"

Saruman didn't want to get rid of Sauron so there wouldn't be evil, he was trying to find the One Ring all for himself :p

also they both believed that dark times were coming and so quickly tried to ally themselves with the power they thought would take over (this is apparent in dooku's case from reading labyrinth of evil).

One major difference though is that Saruman and Sauron
were the same kind of creature,Both were Maiar Spirits
Saruman was confined to a body of flesh,But if he wanted to he and Sauron would have been fairly
    equally matched in powers.

That's no difference. Dooku and Sidious are also the same kind of creature.

But Dooku was not as highly trained, and therefore nOt
    as poweful as Palpatine.

Strilo edit: Spoilers are NOT allowed here.

Dooku to become the Master would have had to destroy Sidious.

If he were able to do,he surely would have done so without plunging
the Galaxy into war and A Totalitarian Dictatorship.

A battle between Saruman and Sauron would have gone
much like Mithrandir's struggle against Durin's Bane,
had he not called upon the Elemental powers of Iluvatar
they would have battled to an empasse.

I think he's more like Scaramanga in the Man with the Golden Gun.

Saruman:"It would seem this contest cannot be decided with our knowledge of the Force, but with gimmicks we took from other roles." *tosses staff and pulls out red lightsaber & golden gun

Gandalf: *puts Magento helmet on "You should have killed me when you had the chance Saruman!"
