Dork-Vader's fan art- sketchy details

Lucky lady - that is some serious sweetness. Nice graphic feeling to it with the crisp highlights and the overall Black/White balance, and I love the nice Palpy reflected in the eye and the detailed metallic knobs.

I've been having fun with doing just the black/white stuff lately. This kinda lent to it feeling a bit more like a horror movie. I did it on a 3'x2' canvas so it would fit in Nicki's fangirl room and not take up too much space, but that only made the lens a few inches wide. Luckily my brush, compressor, and the weather cooperated with me so I could get Palpatine reflected in the lens! I haven't painted an area that small since I used to airbrush license plates at the mall years ago.

Still, it was a fun piece to do- and the look on Nicki's face when she saw it was priceless.

I'm doing sketch cards for Topps' new The Empire Stikes Back 3D widescreen card set which celebrates the 30th anniversary of TESB's release. The cards ship in May and you can find out more at- http://www.topps.com/ent/brands/Empire3DWeb/ESB3D30_Webpage.html

I'm about half way through my cards and I'll post more as I get them approved. I'm using Copic and Prismacolor markers,Copic and acrylic white, and disposable tech pens on most, and I pencil them out first. I'll probably try doing more all pencil ones this next week.

Michael Sheard came here to Memphis for Midsouthcon for several years in a row before he passed away a few years ago. Never saw him without his bow-tie, except for when he took one off for the charity auction or after the closing ceremonies.
