I think its too late to pretend that now. Plus, NCAA history is usually "suspended pending appeal = ineligible until we say otherwise", in contrast to MLB's "play until appeal is decided".

And strangely enough, had they been suspended for the Sugar Bowl, I would have probably watched it. But I can't, in good conscience, watch and root for them in this game now, knowing that they shouldn't be playing.

I can't recall, as a fan, ever feeling like this before. It sucks.

Good hard fought victory for the Bucks against Iowa last night. Sully was a beast again. He reminds a little bit of a young Charles Barkley.

Bucks atop the rankings again. See how long this one will last. I don't foresee them making it through the rest of their Big10 schedule unscathed.

Glad to be #1, wouldn't be shocked to see Illinois win this Saturday, and the BBall team match the football team's one-week stay at #1.

The Bucks dismantled Iowa last night in their first game at #1. A couple of big tests coming up against Illinois and Purdue soon.

Wow, the Purdue game was only close at the opening tip off. The Bucks had an easy time from beginning to end in that one.

Combined, Tress and Matta have a winning percentage of at least .684 against 9 or the other 10 Big Ten Teams.

    Michigan State 13-6 (.684)
    Purdue 16-7 (.696)
    Iowa 14-5 (.737)
    Illinois 16-5 (.762)
    Minnesota 16-5 (.762)
    Indiana 17-4 (.810)
    Penn State 21-3 (.875)
    Michigan 22-3 (.880)
    Northwestern 17-2 (.895)

The only exception: Wisconsin. Tress is 4-4, Matta is 5-9, for an overall 9-13 mark (.409)

Wisconsin beat the defending football National Champions to end their 19-game winning streak.
Wisconsin beat the #1 ranked Buckeyes earlier this year, ending their perfect start.
Wisconsin beat the #1 ranked football Buckeyes this year, handing them their only loss.

If this were Michigan, not Wisconsin, it would be such bitterness added to the rivalry. Instead, it's Wisconsin, helping the team emerge as our second true rival.

There is no doubt, this is a true rivalry now.

Today, it's time for the Buckeyes to get a win over Bucky.

    :D

28-point win. Wisconsin was never in it at any point in time the game could have been decided. Diebler went off on Senior Day. Sullinger was a BEAST.

    Wisconsin can deal with it.

It's probably true, it also probably can't be proven.

I suspect Inty's statement is correct. Not good news for OSU though, if they can prove it.

If this is true, he needs to be fired.

Two game suspension and a drop-in-the-bucket fine. That'll teach him.

I liked this comment, when there was speculation Tress could get fired for it:

"At least he didn't punch a kid. Iconic Buckeye coaches are getting better at how they flame out in a single bad moment"

I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA suspends Tressel for more than just 2 meaningless games. Also, even if they vacate the 2010 season, that means hardly anything now. Ohio State already has reaped the benefits of playing with ineligible players in their Bowl game.

But, the NCAA has really made some perplexing decisions. From doing nothing to Newton to allowing the Ohio State players involved to still play in the Bowl game, it seems as if money is above the regulations of the NCAA.

It will probably be a few months before there is a ruling about Tressel and Ohio State.

The act of covering up is actually worse than the original offense itself. And I also can't stand the stance that the university president and AD are taking with this ridiculous slap in the wrist. I guess integrity and winning with honor mean absolutely nothing as long as Tress is bringing in the $$$$ to the university.

And what's more unsettling to me, is that if this has gone on, what else has he done? Surely this isn't all.

Had this story not been brought to light he wouldn't have come forth with anything.

    Inty, that quote is hilarious.

And I don't find this covering up to be nearly so bad as, say, Bruce Pearl lying to the NCAA when they came investigating. Not saying anything is one thing, lying about it is something else. 2 games and pocket change isn't particularly severe, but the 2 games in football isn't that dissimilar to Pearl's 8 games in basketball - Pearl's is a bit more proportionally but then his offense was worse.

Thank you, men's basketball team, for giving us better things to care about than the Tressel saga.

Thank you, for giving us a meaningful Ohio State-Michigan game.

Part of me honestly thinks Matta has a chance to surpass Tressel in Ohio-love with a title this year.

Well, one thing is for sure, between his handling of the Tressel debacle and the ridiculous explanations for some of the head-scratchers that are in the Dance, Gene Smith has proven to be a class-A tool.

I don't think a good way to answer the questions he got exists. As far as I can tell, the committee valued playing (and losing to) good teams out of conference over beating good teams in conference. Which is kinda weird.

I think the hammer is about to fall on the Bucks football program. If it's as bad as what has happened to similar situations with other coaches, it's time to part ways with Tressel.
