Absolutely. I can't wait for the big SW hero moments (like you say, the first saber ignition, the first sight of the Falcon, the big three, Chewie & the Droids - assuming they're all in it).

I'm sure Arndt and Abrams will know how to milk each of these beats for maximum fist-pumpability. Arndt is too good a writer not to nail these moments and Abrams proved with ST that he knows how to give them the proper awe (or equally subversion).

As some folks who know me well enough already know, I tend to look at the negative side of a lot of things... however, I'm maintaining the position that due to the inherent excitement of just having a new series of SW films (that are sequels, which makes things a hell of lot more interesting) and given Abrams' track record in resurrecting a franchise (at least in his first Trek film), that despite any faults, E7 (and the whole the ST) will be a throughly entertaining & awesome experience. Why not have a little hope here?

    Episode VII
    A NEW HOPELESSNESS

It is a period of pop culture cynicism.
    Opinionated nerds, striking
from a hidden keyboard, have won
    their first victory against
    the non-displaced-sense-of-entitlement fans.

    During the battle, perpetual
    whiners managed to steal the
    joy of the Franchise's
    ultimate weapon, the excited
    fanbase, an online fan
    community with enough power
to destroy an entire jaded outlook.

    Pursued by the Franchise's
    sinister agents, Princess
Nerdrage races to the forums aboard her
    computer, custodian of the
stolen optimism that can save her
    people and restore
being irrationally butthurt to the interwebz....

Speak for yourself Hellhammer, but I'm kinda starting to live in fear.

    See this article from wookieepedia:

I've got this horrible horrible gut feeling that by this time in 2015, it will look like this:

And if it does... I will NOT be forgiving Abrams for it. He shall be forever in my black book.

And that fear is based on what, exactly? Wookieepedia villain search? It was clearly stated that no EU material will be used, that's one of the first and only things they officially said. So, where's that fear coming from?

Not to mention that the article could be in dispute for a million reasons hah, really don't get it what that screenshot is supposed to prove. Okay, it's disputed. Somebody write a new book about Thrawn? A comic? A game? A canon-level cereal box? What? :p

Not using EU material doesn't mean the EU will be unaffected - they still can depict situations and events that make prior EU situations and events impossible.

My hope is that with Episode 7 being set 30 - 40 years after RoTJ, that the earlier post-Endor EU, the first 10 - 20 years, will mostly escape the mighty boot of retconage. I can live easier with that. I'm more partial to it than to the later EU. But I'm not exactly brimming with confidence that it will escape unscathed.

Aaah, I see. I actually understood you were afraid that Thrawn was gonna be in the ST, as it seems that many people here don't want that. My mistake :)

Anyway, that EU discussion has a home of it's own. ;)

Yes it does, and that was frankly a kind of weird avenue to try to take this thread down.

Holy ****! I just noticed this thread. 44 likes for the OP!? Not bad, Hellhammer. First of all, great inspiration for the title. Second, it's refreshing to see the plain facts all laid out. I swear, SW fans are the worst there are when it comes to freaking out about everything. They all really need a slap in the face, and that OP serves that function phenomenally. =D=

Seriously, you should do the talk show circuit about this. [Palpatine]I'll be watching your career posts with great interest.[/Palpatine]

I concur @The Hellhammer, I'm guilty as charged. Kudos on the thread.

    This seems somehow inappropriate.o_O

Very funny...and true. How long did this take to write? I foresee you teaming with Mel Brooks to write Spaceballs II. Barf! Ah, too bad John Candy died.
