Anyone interested in doing 20 sets of drabbles? (5 subjects per set). I am going to do the unofficial challenge with all new subjects I've created myself and knowing how popular this has been in the past, I'm curious to know if anyone else would like to join in.

We need more challenges like this one in the resources.
If things were to get started, you could count me in.

Yeah, sure. If you've already got the themes put together and everything, go for it. Unless the people who handed it off to me object, you can even use the UDC name. [I don't think we can sustain two of these in one year, so there's no point in withholding the brand.]

    Will this be NSWFF-friendly?

Glad to see the enthusiastic response.

Yes it will. I already have 20 weeks of subjects and they will fit any era :D

The first set will be up Monday, the 28th.

Okay - dumb question from someone who has never written a drabble before: do they really have to have exactly 100 words and what happens if you end up with too many words?

Actually, I'm not counting so if you are a word or two over, I doubt it will be noticed. :p The challenge is to limit yourself to 100 words but if it can't be done, it can't be done.

Not sure I understand your question but here goes. will give you 5 different subjects. The subject does not count in your word count. You take the subject and write 100 words about it, or incorporating the subject in your 100 words. For example, if the subject is Baby, you would write 100 words about a baby, or one of the 100 words is baby. Does that help?

I think DARTH_MU was asking if it is one drabble incorporating all 5 subjects, or do we do one drabble for each subject, making it 5 drabbles a set. If I recall, it was the latter.

Thank you Alexis, it is exactly what I meant.

It can be done. The editing to get the word count exact is part of the challenge. And therefore part of the fun. Even when I ran it, though, I didn't usually bother counting unless it was clear from a glance that someone was consistently way off the mark.

Or you can take inspiration from something or someone called Baby. Whatever works for you. [Maybe your characters find dinosaurs in Africa. :p ] Anyway, as Alexis says, it's one drabble per prompt. Five prompts get five drabbles. If you complete the challenge, that's 100 drabbles, 10,000 words (not counting the drabbles' titles).

    It is 5 drabbles a set. Sorry I didn't understand. [face_blush][face_blush]

Going off the word Baby, for instance...if anyone needs an example...

She'd spent an hour sitting with her family in the darkened hall, watching and listening to the acts on stage, and all she'd wanted to do was get up there with a partner and dance. Do what she'd trained with Johnny to do all summer long, ever since she'd walked into that party carrying a watermelon and feeling idiotic. Wanted to... but didn't dare, because her father kept looking her way surrepitiously, wary, as if he was expecting her to disobey him right here in the hall in front of everyone.

And then a familiar voice said words of rebellion she'd been waiting and hoping to hear: "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

It doesn't look like it, but that came out at 113. :)
