Calgary DragonCon Countdown

Might be a change of plans with the costume contest. I don't know what the heck is happening. First I'm on it....now she's not sure and might need me to be an escort for contestants instead. Hmmmm...not sure what THAT involves but I have to be in my 501st gear for it. I dunno. I guess I'll know closer to. I think it depends on who volunteers for stuff 'cuz they need the escorts in gear but the judges don't have to be sooooo......

I'll get on the pauldron thingies asap. I'll try to bring it/them down for Conversion.

 

Interesting - I was just going to post that the SW track "Matters of the Force" aka MOTF is looking for costumed participants to be GUEST ESCORTS.

A sweet job. You don't need to be a member of any SW group - but you do need a canon costume.

Sign up by joining the "motfjediroundtable" at yahoogroups.com, read the posts titled "Guest Escort to Panels", "Escorts" and "MOTF escort duty database". Then do what the posts tell you to.

I don't know if I'm signing up for escort duty - I think most days I will be in other fandom costumes. But it would be a lot of fun!

Hmmmm.....looks like I'm on at least two of the items. I see I'm listed in the Costume Contest..although they didn't spell my last name correctly. And I'm on the Non Jedi costuming panel. I also might be on the Meet the 501st panel. But I'm not sure about that yet.

 

Angela that is awsome that you get to do panels! I have read the star wars track ...so much to do and see. This is going to be so great!

 

Revisiting the Parade issue:

It looks like there is an Aug 1 deadline for registering a costume or group for the Parade.

It also looks like anyone can register and it's easy to do (there's a database on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dc_parade/ ).

I know Lexi, DrH and I can all march with the Rebel Legion now, but my very non-canon Padme/Sabe is not RL material - and I think I've decided I don't want to change between Jedi and P/S in the middle of the day for the SW costume contest.

I was about to just register myself as a "SW individual" (I understand we'll just be put with other SW-related participants who don't have a specific group), but I thought I would doublecheck:

Do we want to enter the "Calgary SW Fan Force: Tosche Station" as an official group? We even have a banner we could bring. We should a rough idea of numbers marching, but I think a ball-park figure would be good enough to hold our place in the parade.

Under the assumption it's always easier to cancel than to register in the first place, I just registered the Calgary FF as a group in the parade with approximately 6 marchers. Who keeps hold of the official banner? Can I borrow it for this?

I'd really like to march with the 501 since it's taken me so long to finally finsih that gear off (thanks for all your work Jodo), but I'd really can meet up afterwards. Can we set up a time/place for that?

Oh.. trust me I am nearly bouncing off the walls already. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

 

My bf is actually trying to figure out what sightseeing he wants to do while in Atlanta. Silly boy! I've let him know that once he gets to D*C he won't even be able to think about touring around! (He doesn't beleive me)

 

Your bf won't want to leave the con, trust me. There's too much to see and do just within the two (now three) hotels. He might be able to go to the Coke bottling plant, but that's about it.

For a taste of what to expect, I offer up my friend Matt's Spaceman site. His conceit was to take an inflatable spaceman doll from the nearby science center in Atlanta, and slowly he began to have pictures taken of the doll with the various creatures and pretty girls at the con. Be warned however; some of the images are not exactly what I'd call work safe.

OMG!! I'm soooo going to be overdressed....'cuz I'll be wearing...anything......hahahah

 

I have a big request to make of my Fan Force friends for Dragon Con. On Saturday, the 501st will be playing the Droid Hunt as we usually do at big conventions. For those of you that don't know what it is - basically members of the general public are given Droid badges on Friday. They have to wear them prominently with no effort to hide them. On Saturday, teams of troopers go out to collect the badges. But they must be in full costume, including their helmets so they have a definite sight disadvantage. Once they collect a droid badge, they give the person a raffle ticket in exchange. It's just a way for the general public to get involved with the 501st.

One of the biggest places the Droid Hunt has been lacking in the past is in the photograph department. Soooooo.....if in your travels around DC on Saturday you could please keep an eye out for Droid Hunt stuff - the exchanging of badges and raffle tickets etc., and take pictures of that I would GREATLY appreciate it! And if you want to play the game too....get a badge from me on Friday!

 

I'm getting cold chills thinking about DCon. I can't believe it's happening!

If the Saturday costume (haven't chosen one yet) allows me to wear a camera, I surely will. And I'll keep an eye out for Droid Hunters. If I can keep my act together instead of running around like a zombie chicken, I will even ask for a droid badge .

Saturday night at 9:00 p.m. the 501st Imperial Pub is going on a Pub Crawl for anyone interested. We are all meeting at the 501st table at 9:00 so if you want to party with some Imperials....again, I'd love for you guys to come out!! Michelle....you haven't made it in to the Imperial Pub yet.....you should "meet" some of the fun people there before meeting them for real! You've find the Pub in the 501st off topic forum. Right now it's called Imperial Pub: Under new anger management......

Excuse me while I crawl into a corner and gibber. I think I need longer than that to just pack - let alone finish all the costume odds and ends....

 

I hear ya, Jen....soooo much left to do! Perhaps we should start a mini support group. Meetings will be held at 2:00 a.m. when we are all trying to stay awake and hand sew a snap on.
