Drum roll.....Introducing the Forum Search Feature

You will start to notice the SEARCH feature in a few forums. When you type in a key word, it will give you a result that shows the user and the post in which that word has been used. Click in that post and the word will be highlighted. Thank you to zerosleep for this new feature.

This is an absolutely wicked slick tool. Try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Try typing in "Sidious clone Palpatine" in the 3SA and every post in every thread will come back.

 

I'm not sure it's working correctly...surely, ( http://boards.theforce.net/search_boards.asp?board=10006&search_type=byboard&search_phrase=drama&select1=1&select1=1 ) would have crashed the forums, yet it only returns one page of results.

Just so people don't start asking this, but here is what zerosleep has said about the feature:

As for search, SO FAR it allows you to search an entire system, category or individual board for a string of complete words.

FOR NOW it'll only let you search on messages posted in the last 30 days. IGN may increase this.

It's hard to say how much this feature will be changed in the future, but at least it's being started.

So, you can only get things as far back as a month at the moment, but at least we have a search feature, and when comibined with the 3rd party one we have set up in most forums, you should be able to search most of the forum for posts.

Also, you only seem to get one page of results, equalling about 50 posts. Shame since I wanted to see how many posts we have that acutally mention Star Wars.

 

I've always found it odd that the biggest Star Wars message board on the Internet talks about Star Wars the least.

 

It's also funny how half the posts in the Episode III No Spoilers forum are in social threads.

It's ironic, but not surprising.

I thought we used to have a search feature which Darthcleo had disabled, due to the load it put on the server.

 

Cool, now when someone posts a redundant thread it'll be easier to find the old thread so you can lock theirs.

 

Well, we've been trying to make it that way in 3SA for a long time. In fact, other than this we couldn't have made it any easier. We have a link to all the threads in the header and a sticky thread for all official threads. It's there no matter which 3SA page you're on. Depite this, the forum is a breeding ground for redundancy. Sadly, I think redundancy will still continue even with the addition of the search feature.

Yeah. That's what happened with the "No Icon" Icon at first to Jedi Nailbiter and myself, it got fixed quickly somehow though..
