Tim Robbins's invention did more than just bring Howard and the Dark Overlords to earth...

Ducks are in the phantom menace; here

"An enigmatic waterfowl from worlds scattered across the galaxy, ducks are often referred to in a number of colorful expressions. During Queen Amidala's escape from Naboo, Captain Panaka was heard to lament the likelihood of their being hit by Trade Federation cannonades. He likened their position to being "sitting ducks.

When first training Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force, Obi-Wan used an analogy, explaining that even a duck must be taught how to swim. Luke's rather provincial response was, "what's a duck?"

Like Humans, ducks and many other earth species can be found in the galaxy far far away.

This includes, dogs, cats, horses, crows, ferrets, llamas, redwood trees, ferns, and many other earth species.

"...ferrets, llamas and horses -- indicating that humans are not the only life-forms that Earth shares with the galaxy far, far away."

The original E4 novelisation was very simplistic and plain in writing style. Besides, it's not like other SW terminology was around back then. What other example could the author have used?

Not that he couldn't have just made up an exotic animal name, but hey, that would be stretching the creative limits. :D

Lucas was simplistic putting Humans into the movies, when he could have put a more exotic alien in the galaxy far far away. Humans are too earth like.

    I like ducks.

It makes lots of sense to have Luke not know what a duck is, I mean, where on Tatooine could you possibly find a duck?

Someone as travelled as the great Obi-Wan Kenobi would certainly know what a duck is.

There was a LFL movie called Howard the Duck, had Lea Thompson, Tim Robbins and Jefrrey Jones in it. It's based on a comic book which has had a recent return.

The movie, however, is really bad. But it's one of those bad movies that is fun to watch. Had some great stop motion work done at the end with the Dark Overlord creature too.
