    Hey guys, something interesting...

Listening to the Empire soundtrack awhile ago, I noticed something during the Luke/Vader saber-fight track (I can't remember the name cause I don't own the soundtrack)... a little while in, possibly a minute or so, there's a horn part that sounds distinctly like the opening to "Duel of the Fates."

Anyone else notice this, and think Williams purposefully incorporated this music from ESB into TPM? Sorry if this has been discussed before...

Could you be a little more specific? Like as to the exact track and the elapsed time?

I'd love to comment on this but I don't know where to look for it! :(

Unfortunately I don't have access to the soundtrack CD, because I'd love to give that info. :(

I do know that it's after a nice stretch of quiet, moody music. Then the horns come in with that descending fanfare (sung by the choir in DOTF) and the piece changes its feel. Wish I could do better. :(

There's quite a bit of that in TESB. :D

Can anyone else help us out? :)

I think he might mean at 1:17 on Track 10 on the 2nd CD of the Special Edition (The Clash of Lightsabers). Or maybe the horn blasts during the Imperial March before that?

Somehow, I doubt it, but I'll check it out later tonight! :)

But speaking of DOTF in places before TPM came out, do any of you have the game Rogue Squadron? Because after you get all bronze metals you get this level where you get to fly Luke's T-16. Anyways, the music that starts off this level is EXACTLY like DOTF. It's not like it "resembles it", it *is* DOTF.

If anyone here has Rogue Squadron, go check this out now! (Cheat if you need to get to that level).

I don't feel like lugging myself up-the stairs and un-plug my gamecube, and plug in my N64, and play rouge squadron...

You mean the "Beggers Canyon" with the T-16, right? That's part of the ewok/endor music not dual of the fates... it's not even close.

Which ppart are you talking about, Sithy? The beginning oif the race or after the music changes... there are two pieces played for that level.

The VERY first notes that are played as soon as you start to race.

VERY first notes. Go for it, Poodles, you're a gamer of sorts! :)

Listen to the final track on disc 1 of the ESB SE soundtrack...you'll hear a definite bit of Duel of the Fates...the fast strings that play right before the choir starts singing.

On the ESB disc, those same notes play beneath a quick version of Yoda's theme on that track. Unfortunately, this music wasn't used in the film.

I don't think it is a stretch that Duel of the Fates has drawn cues from the original movies, as this is what it was written for. A battle of good v evil, that had a familiar ring to it from the OT movies.

No doubt if someone listens to ROTJ, I would expect to hear plenty of cues that are used in Duel of the Fates.

So much of the "new" music is reworked pieces in another key from the original movies. A smart move to give the movies the same tempo and sound, but with the current events still better than what tehy were in the OT, they are a key or two higher, and seem unrecognisable.

The piece that PokeAlex is talking about is 0:30 - 0:42 of "The Duel," which is track 17 on the "Star Wars Trilogy Original Soundtrack Anthology" box set.

I don't have the SE soundtracks, so I'm basing this on an MP3 I found, but it's in the same time frame on Track 10 of Disc 2, "The Clash of Lightsabers."

On an mp3 of The Clash of Lightsabers, I heard a DOTFish theme at 1:40 in to it. Then after a few seconds it's played in the background behind other themes. It sounds like the start up of DOTF in the Return to Tatooine track on the AOTC soundtrack.

I personally like the ESB one. I'd recommend that.

Oh, make sure you get the paperback sleeve instead of the normal CD plastic one.
