Buffy had the problem that is similar to what happened to Babylon 5. My Dad is the person who is the B5 fan in the family, so excuse me if this isn't exactly correct. J. Michael Straczynski had a 5 year story arc for B5. During the 4th year, Sci-Fi decided not to pick the show up for the next year. As a result Straczynski tried to wrap up his story line in 4 years. Then, TNT picked up B5 for a fifth season, but it was too late. The show staggered through a final season with no story to tell.

As Buffy went into its 5th year (**SPOILERS**), Sarah Michelle Gellar's contract was ending, as was the show's contract with WB. Joss Whedon had to write a story that gave a way to have Buffy leave the show. Now, if they had worked things out mid-season, the show might have ended differently, but as it was, with the show possibly over, Buffy died again at the end of the season to defeat Glory's plan.

So season 6 had to bring her back from the grave AND find some new sort of evil. Plus the show changed networks. At least you have Buffy, the Musical in season 6. The bigger problem they had was that they had opened things up to really explore Giles' past (as he killed Glory by killing Ben at the end of season 5), but Anthony Head took time off from the show. As a result, they really had nothing to focus on but Willow the witch.

In regards to buying season 6, I plan on going to Sam's Club. I think I've bought every season there. Price was $36.97 or so for season 5. Their price keeps going down slightly for each season.

On another note entirely, the reason that Sex and the City season 6 is split into parts is because the season itself was. Instead of being 18 consecutive weeks, the season ran as 12 weeks from June to September and then 8 weeks from January to February. Of course, season 4 did the same thing (except only 6 episodes in Jan/Feb, 18 total) and it was one release. But for the final set, you also have some longer episodes and might put the 2-part retrospective and who knows what else on it.

Wally World might be a few cents cheaper than Target on ROTK, but Target also gives you a box of Act II microwave popcorn Free w/ purchase (up to an 8 pack box) & $5 off a pack of AA 10 pack batteries. [face_dancing] So, Its the BETTER VALUE. :)

BTW, did anybody see the report they had on this morning on Good Morning America about Vermont being under attack by Wal-mart? It was hilarious. [face_laugh] They have a point in regards to the historic districts & also about the Mom & Pop stores being put out of business by these large department stores, but I think they are taking it a bit far. Working for a land development company, I at least know this, if the land is available for sale & for commercial zoning, than Wal-mart has every right to build a store. However, its also up to the city to grant or deny application for zoning. Wal-mart would also have to adhere to historic architectural standards, which they won't, so where's the issue? Anyway, its entertaining at least.

Wal-Mart Update for the week of 5/23/04:
LOTR: Return of the King: My WMT had this title for $14.25. While I didn't study it closely it appeared to have a free popcorn coupon just like Target. From what I've heared the battery offer, basically gives you a free pack of Duracells.
LOTR: Theater Version Trilogy: Only $55.88 at WMT.
Underworld (SE): At WMT for $16.88.
Saving Pvt. Ryan (60th Anniv.): A low-low $15.88. They do not have the WWII Collection 4-disc sets.
Buffy (Season 6): Hope the Collector hasn't broken the seal yet on this one, cause my WMT had it for $35.88.
Welcome to Mooseport: The film company must have stood their ground since WMT only had this marked down to $19.66.

That's all for now. Note: Prices were as posted at the Hickory Hollow WMT, your local WMT may charge a slightly different price. Never hurts to make an issue of it with the electronics manager.

Underworld (SE): At WMT for $16.88.

Note that this is the Special Edition (regular version) of Underworld this price at Wallyworld is referring to & not the Unrated Extended Cut 2 disc Edition that was just released. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone will be able to find this for less than $21.99 (Circuit City). Best Buy has it at $23.99 & Target at $24.99. Even Amazon.com has this listed at $24.46 ($0.54 away from qualifying for Free shipping).

That sucks Scott. I may be wrong, but I'm 95% sure that my WMT had the new unrated Director's Cut (I just put SE down to save time this morning) with the distinctive cover for the price I listed above. Didn't take the title to a scanner, so they may have just stocked out the wrong title. Wouldn't be the first time the electronics department stocked out the wrong item.

Everyplace I've seen Buffy down here was for $45.88+. I did notice when I bought season 3 or 4 that there was a $5-10 difference at Best Buy, Target, and Suncoast. Can't remember where I got it for the lowest price...

Suncoast had the SpED 'Underworld' for about what you all have quoted- around the $21 mark. 'Shrek' with the bonus 3-D DVD was only $16.99. Walmart may be close or the same- haven't been buy in a few weeks.

It appears that the Memorial Day prices are for the whole week. Standard abbreviations apply (CC=Circuit City, BB=Best Buy, & WMT=Wal-Mart). For the week of 5/30/04 to 6/05/04:
Monster: The film that added Oscar winer to Charlize Theron's resume is $15.99 at CC, BB & possibly Target.
My Baby's Daddy: The Afro version of 3 Men & a Baby is $15.99 at Target.
Spider-Man (Deluxe Edition): This 3-disc version of the original film is $15.99 at Target. Not sure if this is a BB exclusive, but BB's ad notes that the package includes Movie Cash for a free viewing of "Spider-Man 2," not sure if this is a BB thing only, but might be worth it at the slightly higher price of $19.99 (tickets are valued up to $12). A Spider-Man Superbit edition is also $19.99 at BB and includes the film ticket.
Spider-Man (The New Animated Series): 3 volumes of the series that was dropped by MTV comes out in 3 volumes (3 episodes per volume) for $9.99 each at CC. All of these episodes can be found on the 2-disc Season 1 set, but for those who don't want them all here are the 3 volumes:
    1. The Mutant Menace 2. High-Voltage Villians 3. The Ultimate Face-Off.
Pitch Black (Unrated Director's Cut): CC, BB, and Target have the first film of the upcoming theater release for $17.99. BB & CC's ad also mentions Movie Cash for a free viewing of "The Chronicles of Riddick." By the by, one of the guests at MSC (Dragon) did the armor for Riddick and showed us some of his stuff and it was pretty kicking!
Euro Trip (Unrated): The teen sex romp is $17.99 at BB & CC. BB includes a free bonus disc that features interviews, casting tapes & behind-the-scenes footage.
Das Boot (Org. Uncut Version): The 2-disc with the orginial 5 hour version (current copies are only around 3.5 hours, which is enough) comes to shelves at an overpriced $29.99 at BB & CC. I may just rent this one. One of the few German language DVDs you can find in the US.
Dukes of Hazzard (Season 1): Catch the beginning of those Duke boys and their zany antics in a redneck/hick world gone horribly wrong in this 3-disc set for $29.99 at CC. If you're going to AdventureCon this weekend you might consider getting this title & having Daisy Duke her ownself autograph it in Knoxville.
Coupling (Season 3): The UK comedy is back in this 2-disc set for $29.99 at BB. This series is pretty good, but much better when it's free on BBCAmerica.
Sponge Bob Squarepants in Sponge Guard on Dury: The favorite of children & tokers everywhere is back for $12.99 at BB.
Summer School: The Marc Harmon summer film marks its DVD debut for $9.99 at BB.
WWE Hall of Fame 2004 Induction Ceremony: The full ceremony that took place the night before Wrestlemania XX is here on a 2-disc set for $17.99 at BB.
The Company: Yeah, I've never heard of it either. Stars Neve Campbell & Malcolm McDowell and is $15.99 at BB.
New Releases Everyone wants $19.99 for: Starship Troopers 2 & Catch That Kid.
BB's Memorial Day Sale: For $12.99 each: Finding Nemo, Pirates of the Caribbean, Monsters Inc. (CE).
The first 2 Harry Potter films is in a 2-pack for $19.99 for the lot.
CC's $9.99 Everything Must Go Sale: Ice Age, King of NY, X2 X-Men United, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, S.W.A.T., Terminator 3, Harry Potter 1, The Recruit, Tomb Raider 2, About A Boy, The General's Daughter, Matchstick Men, Friday After Next (infinifilm), Grease, As Good As It Gets, Rush Hour 2 (infinifilm), Uptown Girls (SE), A Beautiful Mind (Oscar winner version), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Fight Club (1-disc), The Perfect Storm, Zoolander, Face/Off, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon (SE), Dirty Dancing (UE), & Poetic Justice.

    Here's a selection of deals from BestBuy.com:

Sorry for the delay, it took me awhile to decomprese from AdCon and my newspaper was missing the Target & CC ads, so I stole my parents' copies last night. Deals for the week of 6/6/04 to 6/12/04:
Along Came Polly: The Ben Stiller/Jennifer Aniston flick is at your local Wal-Mart for $14.87. BB offers this title for $16.99, but includes an on-pack bonus DVD, "Get an inside look at this summer's hottest releases. Learn more about 'The Chronicles of Riddick,' go on the set of 'The Bourne Supremacy' and more."
Field of Dreams (Anniversary Edt.): The Kevin Costner movie about the bond between fathers and sons is out in time for Fathers' Day in a 2-disc set for $16.88 at WMT and includes a bonus DVD featuring World Series MVP Bret Saberhagen.
Mystic River: The winner of 2 Oscars is out in a 2-disc or 3-disc version. WMT has the 2-disc version for $15.88; or BB, CC & Target has it for $15.99. The 3-disc "Deluxe Edition" features the 2-disc version plus the CD soundtrack and is $29.99 at BB, CC and Target.
Ten years ago, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the A-Team (Season 1): The classic action series of the 80's is back in a 4-disc set for $34.99 at CC. Sadly there are no extras.

Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Doctor Sam Beckett led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM LEAP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Beckett, prematurely stepped into the Project Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own time was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al, the Project Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Beckett could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next leap will be the leap home. Quantum Leap (Season 1): The complete series (long awaited by Catherine Talento and others) is out in a 3-disc set for $34.99 at CC.
M*A*S*H (Season 6): The 4077th welcomes Maj. Winchester to Korean medical front. The title is $29.99 everywhere, but top honors go to Amazon.com for offering the title for $27.99 + free shipping (plus I don't think they charge sales tax.
Reality Bites (10th Anniv. Edt.): The Wynona Ryder, Ben Stiller & Ethan Hawke film is $12.99 at CC & Target.
Merlin (SE): The TV movie is $14.44 at WMT or $14.99 at BB & CC.
Robocop Trilogy: The 3-disc set of all 3 films is $24.99 at CC.
SCTV Volume 1: Network 90: Catch the first season of the Canadian hit that made stars out of John Candy, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, and countless others. The 5-disc set is $54.99 at CC.
Who's the Boss (Season 1): Discover who's the boss of the house while watching a very young Alyssa Milano on this 3-disc set for $29.99 at CC.
Just Shoot Me (Seasons 1&2): The show that made David Spade leave the warm embrace of SNL is out on a 4-disc set for $29.99 at Target & CC.
Tour of Duty (Season 1): The grity story of frontline soldiers in Vietnam is out in a 5-disc set, but is missing the famous theme song "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones as well as other background music that were major hits during the Vietnam era. The set can be had for $39.99 at BB or for $34.96 at Amazon.
PlayMakers (Complete Series): The ESPN series about football is out on a 3-disc set for $29.99 at CC & Target.

I picked up Field of Dreams at the DVDMaster's Wal-Mart on Tuesday (after a concert in the area). Despite the display, it rang up at $19.99 and I had to have them correct the price. Coincidentally, my brother visited the Field of Dreams on Tuesday.

I like the idea about a Father's Day gift. Maybe I'll just give my Dad the old VHS copy. I'm glad I waited for a better disk to come out (as I did with Rain Man).

I never seem to get the CC ads in my paper either.

Quick update for this week. Target has included more movies for $7.50 than they indicated in their ad. At the WBR store the 2 title I can remember is "Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels" and "SNL: The Best of Will Ferrell" (an excellant deal).

I didn't receive a Circuit City ad (again) in my Sunday ad, so CC's info will be from their website (caveat emptor). For the week of 6/20/04 to 6/26/04:
Bad Santa: The Billy Bob Thorton is out in 2 versions, Rated and the Unrated Badder Santa featuring the "naughty version you didn't see in theaters." Both versions are at Target (?), BB, & CC for $15.99. BB will also sell you the 1-disc version of Armageddon for $4.99 with purchase of Bad Santa. WMT will likely have it for less, but likely won't have the unrated version due to the PC nazis in the ordering department. (I'm a stockholder of Wal-Mart don't think I hate them, just hate their Big Brotherism in setting an example for other retail stores as to content).
Secret Window: The Johhny Depp thriller is $15.99 at CC.
Reno911! (Season 1): Catch-up with Lt. Dangle and his gang of misfits in this 2-disc set for $17.99 at BB. Extras included new footage and commentary from the cast.
Joe Schmo Show (Season 1): The Spike TV original series is out "uncensored" in a 3-disc set for $39.99 at Target & CC.
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra (SE): This unheard of sci-fi spoof/parody (as per CC) is $15.99 at BB.
Spider-Man Limited Collector's Edition: BB is basically giving away the boxed collector's set of the first film for a low $19.99. You get Spider-Man widescreen 2-disc DVD; Stan Lee's Mutants, Monsters & Marvels DVD; Collectible reprint of Amazing Fantasy #15, which introduced the Spider-Man character; Collectible senitype featuring a film cel from the movie personally selected by the director; Limited edition off-set lithograph reproduction by John Romita Sr. and John Romita Jr. (Spider-Man artists). Also, BB advertises a free exclusive spider-man comic book with purchase of a Sony Spider-Man CD, DVD or video game.

BB's "Music & Movies Go Together Hand In Hand": Several movies and their soundtracks are only $9.99 in celebration of tonight's "AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs" special at 7 PM on CBS.

That's all for now. See ya later! TK-3740

Regarding the price difference with Wal-Mart....
I've brought this to the attention of several of the store managers of different Wal-Marts around the Franklin, Nashville and Dickson areas. Everything from babyfood formula to FRS radios. They price according to regional supply and demand. This is understandable. BUT, they will not price match their own stores. As it was put to me by the Elmer Fudd-looking manager at the DICKson Wal-Mart, "If you see it at the _______ Wal-Mart and its cheaper than this store, buy it there". A real marketing genius. I'll take his advice.

... and if you have already bought something at the WalMart with a higher price. Buy it again at the lower price and return the 'new' item with the old reciept. This work Target to WalMart or Kmart to Target, etc.
I reserve this tactic for Big Bucks that is worth it. Like the $6 I saved on the Quantum Leap discs.

It also works if you find something on clearance in a really crappy box. I bought something on clearance at Target once for $18 in a beat-up box. Then I went to TRU and found the same thing for $80 in a nice new clean box. I bought the one at TRU and put it on my credit card, then took the crappy one back to TRU the next day with the $80 receipt, so I got a nice mint item for $18 instead of $80. It's called "the old switcheroo".
