With the video output, yes it prefers ntsc it is fully compatable with PAL. You just need to find a driver installation with the PAL resolution/refresh in the install .ini
(that is unless your using the latest detonators.. then they should be configurable through the options)

Either that, or you can change it in the registry..

ntsc - pal - I dont mind.. I think PAL looks good.. Ntsc is widely used too though.. if I had to pick one I hate, it'd be the french format sucks worse than both PAL and NTSC.. horrible.. disgusting.. yuk.. ikki-poos :p

    WOW

My bali starwars dvds (original trilogy) are all ORIGINAL VERSIONS!!!! no special editon stuff at all! and it looks digitally remastered!...atleast, i think they're the original versions, they were missing various sections from the special edition of ANH (eg, Han n Jabba's scene) and in ESB so far the exdended shots of the wampa thingo monster creature weren't there! so it seems to be the original release...! :D

    yay!

Sounds like they got hold of the digital remasters that were released on VHS before the speceddies were released.
Have you noticed in ESB on Hoth, that anything in shadow is pretty much black, cos that's what the tapes are like.
I noticed with the digital remaster of Top Gun as well, in the original at the start, you can make out the carrier (flight deck etc) Mav is trying to guide Cougar back to, but in the remaster all you can make out is the lights on the carrier- the rest is all black.

I'd love that Terminator set. I've held off on the first two in case they released all three in a set. I actually missed out on seeing #3 at the cinemas which really sucked so that's another reason for me to look forward to that one.

I was thinking of getting the Terminator Trilogy set but now that Terminator 4 is in the works I might wait and see what that is like and then get a box set of the 4 since the story would be complete.

I'm looking forward to getting that Battlestar Galactica Box Set as well. I'm not sure which one I will choose though. Maybe the 7 disc set just for the nice Cylon box.

Whoah! You'd have to be pretty obsessed to get a 9 disc set for only 4 movies. The original 4 disc (with the bonus 5th disc - so 5 discs in total) was my first DVD purchase. Unless you never had that one which was already a good set I don't know that there'd be any need for another set.

That would be flogging a dead horse a bit. The first two were classics. The next two had their good points but probably shouldn't have been made.
Should have left the story alone after Aliens.

I think an Alien 5 would be pushing it after the disgrace that was Alien: Ressurection. They should of stuck with the Alien Trilogy.

I liked the 4th movie, but Alien 5 might not be a good idea.

Speaking of which, Alien vs Predator begins production shortly. It's been on the cards for years now, what with the success of the comic books and games series.

I thought Aliens 3 was a decent enough movie but kinda spoiled the ending of Aliens. I liked the idea that they survived it all, went home and lived happily ever after. The idea that they all ended up dying after all? I would have preferred it if they left it after Aliens.
I personally think that there are far too many sequels in the film industry and in a lot of cases the original films would stand better on their own. Sequels get made for the sake of having a sequel.

It's a lack of originality.. they know they'll make more money if the first one was successful, so why try to come up with something totally new?

In a way I agree with you, there are far too many sequels in hollywood. However, some sequels are warranted to continue the story as was originally developed (such as Star Wars) while others are created for the simple task of making more money (Bad Boys 2, Charlies Angles 2, Rocky 16, etc...)

Thankfully, there are those that create sequels to outdo the original, so in a way as long as there is a decent storyline that can be developed after the first film, a sequel can be a good thing (take the X-Men and Spiderman franchise for instance, and ignore the Batman & Robin dribble).

But in the end, it all comes down to money and public interest. The industry will always make movies for profit, and the public love to see familiar characters on screen more then once (Shrek, Star Trek, etc.)

I agree that some sequels need to be made since a deep and involving storyline can't be told in a 2-3 hour movie like Star Wars/Matrix/Lord of the Rings. It needs to be made over several installments.

But just as you said and the movies you listed, they are just created to make more money and do not carry on from the original storyline.

The Two Towers and Return of The King aren't sequels, just subsequent chapters in one epic story.

Similar to The Matrix and Starwars where it was the intention all along to have sequels. It generally sucks when they only decide to make a sequel after a movie's got big and they realise they can milk it for all it's worth.
Disney's gone crazy with sequels lately. I don't think there's a single classic disney movie that hasn't had a recent straight to video sequel made and they pretty much all suck.

I just got the Pianist on DVD and may I say [face_shocked] what a brilliant masterpiece! I was a big fan of Schindler's List and I read The Pianist in one day at Rottnest last week and I really wanted to see how they made the movie compared to the writings of the real Wladyslaw Szpilman. Matched the book perfectly and I could not find a single flaw...... if you havn't seen The Pianist yet then I urge you to hurry the **** up!

Joe 90 Complete DVD Box Set and Captain Scarlett Complete DVD Box Set are both out now. They are both 5 disc box sets and are roughly around $50 which is a great price.

If you aren't familiar with these 2 shows, they are made by Gerry Anderson of Thunderbirds fame.
