I've got the DVD- I think it only has 6-8 episodes. I got it at Best Buy, and have seen them there often- in the television DVDs section for about $20 or so. I enjoyed it, especially since I missed a couple of the episodes because Fox kept moving/replacing it and 'Greg The Bunny'.

The Tick (live-action version) came out on DVD on 9/30/03. No news on the animated version. GM Mike asked the same thing at an event last year that occurred the same week that title was released. Y'all really should read theDVD Deals of the week thread more regularly. You would have seen this entry from the 9/30/03 post: The Tick: Entire Series (Live Action): While not advertised anywhere this short lived TV series (starring Seinfeld's "Puddy") is out on disc today. The Best Buy website lists it for $22.99.

BB still charges that price (so no real deal there, but no one else advertised the set). Currently you can get an used copy in like new condition for $18.33. May also want to try eBay.

In a recent CNN article it was noted that the 3-disc Clerks 10th Anniversary DVD will be out September 7th. Kevin Smith has begun writing the sequel entitled "The Passion of the Clerks." You know that title's going to stir up controversy.

Yeah! Give him a break. Geez. BTW- I highly recommend picking up The Tick. The live action series was almost as good as the animated series.

Which brings me to one of my standing questions? Any news on The Tick animated series.
Trainspotting Special Edition came out a few weeks ago. Ya let me down there Zach.

Now my new question. When is the Jersey Girl Special Edition coming out?
Just like one of Kevin Smith's other flicks, Dogma, Jersey Girl's first release will be a bare bones disc. So when is the trademark Kevin Smith suped-up-super-dooper DVD coming out. Soon enough to wait or do I buy the Clerks X/Jersey Girl combo (hopefully at a discount).

As always, thanks for doing my leg work for me.

There has been no news on the The Tick animated series coming to DVD. Not even rumors. Not sure why.

No one advertised Trainspotting SE, so it didn't make the DVD deals list. There are so many minor titles realeased each week (no, I'm not considering "Trainspotting" a minor title, just saying that lots of junk is released each week) that I don't watch the release lists anymore. Amazon may be your best shot for the rerelease of older films. Start making a list of films y'all want to see and I'll try to keep my eye out for them. I do know that the 2-disc SE of Top Gun will be out in October.

Currently (as Newsaskew put it), "there's been no word of another edition yet" of Jersey Girl. Next week's release won't be bare-bones, for one thing there is 2 commentary tracks on there. Anyone who's watched a complete Kevin Smith DVD knows that the commentaries are the best extra feature ever on these things. So go out there and buy it. Visit Viewaskew's store to buy the new (& older) DVDs signed by Kevin Smith for a farily hefty price. He's charging MSRP (or more) and won't cut you a Best Buy deal, but you are getting his John Hancock.

Next tuesday Kevin's going to be doing some DVD signings in L.A. and the event is being taped for inclusion on "An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder". The Newsaskew story goes on to say, Columbia/Tristar has approved the proposal for three venues: one in Toronto, one in London, and one in Vegas. We're hoping to go back to the Roy Thomson Hall for the TO venue. For Vegas, we're hoping to get the Hard Rock Casino's "Joint" stage. Open to suggestions for the London venue (we'll need a bigger space than that theater in Leicester Square to accommodate the cameras and whatnot).

The only thing I can think of that I am still looking for that I have not mentioned before is Sinbad's Brain Damaged. It was not a movie, it was an HBO special, I think.
There are some others that have been released already but I never find in stores. Any news of a re-releases/new release/wide release of:
    Animaniacs
    The Paper
    Qucik Change
    Leap of Faith
    Full Metal Jacket (WS)
    Groundhog Day

The Paper: The Michael Keaton film was released on 01 NOV 98. Amazon has it used for $8.86.
Leap of Faith: A bare-bones (I assume) WS version of this film was released on 09 SEP 03. Amazon has this used for $9.55.
Full Metal Jacket (WS) No idea why a WS has yet to be made for the best Kubrick film around.
Groundhog Day was released in a Special Edition on 29 JAN 02. Extras appear to include commentary with director Harold Ramis, a 24-minute featurette with interviews & outtakes, filmographiesm trailers, & a booklet You can get it used on Amazon for $14.99.

No news on your other requests, so far. You could also try eBay and I've had good luck for older films at Hastings on Ft. Campbell Blvd. (down past the Wal-Mart).

Couple of quick updates from tvshowsondvd.com:

    The Simpsons (Season 5):
Will you have to wait until Summer 2005 to get it? Nope! Even though it has been roughly a one-year wait between season sets of The Simpsons in the past, Fox is going to get Season 5's DVD set out in time for Christmas...roughly six months after the 4th Season's release. The exact date is December 21st, so be prepared to plunge into the midst of last-minute gift-shoppers to get your hands on it! We'll brave the crowds, though, and won't give it a second thought.

What makes it worthwhile? Awesome extras, as normal, can be found on this release. Commentary tracks will be recorded by many notable cast, crew, and guests. Among the commentators will be Hank Azaria, James L. Brookes, Matt Groening, Al Jean, Jon Lovitz, and newly minted future host of The Tonight Show, Mr. Conan O'Brien. And that's just a handful of the participants! Furthermore, you'll find coolness such as deleted scenes, animatics, storyboards, sketches, Commericials, and intros by creator Matt Groening. And there's more in the way of bonus material yet to be revealed! Just as soon as Fox makes the complete list of contents available, we'll bring that right to you.

Specs on this are English Dolby Surround 5.1, Spanish Stereo, French Stereo, and subtitles in English and Spanish. Video is Full-Frame 1.33:1, of course. 484 minutes is the stated running time for what should be 22 episodes in the 5th season. All of this will run you $49.98 in the USA.

    SNL - Trivial Pursuit:
This is my first "want" for the Christmas season! SNL SCORES TRIVIAL PURSUIT GAME
Coincides with late night show's 30th anniversary
OCT. 1 | The game is on for NBC's Saturday Night Live--the series is scoring its own Trivial Pursuit DVD game.

This is the second time the veteran sketch show has been licensed for a game, which is available now in stores for $39.99. Its launch from Hasbro coincides with the upcoming 30th anniversary of SNL, which has run on NBC since 1975.

Popular SNL characters, including the Ladies Man, Conehead, Mango and Mary Katherine Gallagher, star in the Trivial Pursuit edition as game pieces. Over 2,000 questions spanning the show's 30-year history are featured in the game's board game and interactive DVD components.

"This introduction represents a true milestone in the history of Trivial Pursuit," said Mark Blecher, senior VP marketing for Hasbro Games. "We've combined one of the world's favorite games with one of the all-time popular comedies."

This game can already be found in local Target's (and probably Wal-Marts) for $39.99. TRU will not get the game until 10/25/04.

There are "6 categories covering the entire show: Sketches, Famous Impressions, Commercial parodies, Characters, SNL etc, and The Show." There are 2400 questions with 1,800 printed Trivial Pursuit cards, plus you get the DVD with the pie-scoring questions.

Lucky for me that I never opened my Hellboy DVD, so I returned it today and only paid 2 dollars for the Hellboy Directors cut special edition. I saw the VanHelsing movie and hesitated to get it for this same reason. Is a Directors Cut of Van Helsing in the works.

OK, people have seemed to have forgotten about this thread for general DVD musings. So here's a repost of info:

Dont know if this was posted before but I just read that the Clone Wars: Animated Series will be released on Mar 22.

Speaking of Animated SW... I watched half of the Droids DVD. Didnt someone say that there were only 2 episodes on each disc? And wernt these half hour cartoons?
Then it would more acurate to say there are 2 story-arcs per disc. Cause each 'episode' runs about 88mins (or 4 half hour shows minus commercials).
So there are really 8 episodes per DVD. That is for both Droids and Ewoks.

These cartoons are super-cheesey (as expected) but it is interesting to spot where stuff came from. Like... 'she is wearing Han's belt' and ' that ship is half a imperial shuttle'.

Been a while since I've posted to this thread. Here's some updates from tvshowsondvd.com:

Hannibal (George Peppard), B.A. (Mr. T), Faceman (Dirk Benedict), & Howling Mad Murdock (Dwight Schultz) are back on DVD soon. Universal has announced The A-Team (Season 2) for release on April 12th.
Guest stars this season include Tracy Scoggins, Markie Post, Michael Ironside, Ernie Hudson, John Vernon, Charles Napier, Lance Henriksen, Kurtwood Smith, Bo Hopkins, Dennis Franz, Michael Ensign, Sam Jones and of course semi-regular Lance LeGault as the ever-pursuing Colonel Decker.
There are 3-discs, all double-sided, dual-layer "DVD-18s". The running time is 1108 minutes for what ought to be 23 episodes. Look for full-frame video, English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound, and subtitles in English, French, and Spanish. $49.98 SRP is the price.
Following up on our news, we now have the full-sized cover art for you to look at.
We also need to correct the info about the episode count we mentioned yesterday: we said "23 episodes", and Universal's information says "22". There's no problem, really: one episode during this season ("When You Comin' Back, Range Rider?") was a double-length episode. So there are 23 "hours" of episodes during this season, but the count of 22 episodes (one of them being extra-long) is the more customary way of describing it. We're sorry for the confusion.
It's also worth noting here that The A-Team - Season 2 will contain a bonus episode from the second season of Knight Rider. On the other hand, Magnum, P.I. - The Complete 2nd Season will contain a bonus episode from Knight Rider - Season 2 AND a bonus episode from The A-Team - Season 2. Wild. All three titles release on April 12. Here's that artwork:.

Chappelle's Show - The Complete 2nd Season originally scheduled for early February but delayed to tie in with the broadcast debut of the show's third season is now set for May 24th.
As we've said before, this will be on 3 discs running 275 minutes, plus extras such as audio commentaries by Dave Chappelle and series co-creator Neal Brennan, two unaired Charlie Murphy Hollywood Stories, the Rick James extended interview, extra stand-up material from Dave Chappelle, and over 1 hour of bloopers and deleted scenes! You can pre-order it from Amazon.com for just $27.29 (even though they haven't updated their date yet...no surprise; the new date was just now announced!).

Northern Exposure (Season 3) selling for $59.98 SRP with a May 10th release date: From Universal Studios Home Entertainment comes Northern Exposure - Season 3 on May 10, 2005. Reunite with the quirky, endearing citizens of Cicely, Alaska for the best Northern Exposure season yet. Nominated for an astonishing 16 Emmy Awards and the winner of six, including Outstanding Drama Series, this is the must-own season of one of television's most original series. Packed with 23 hilarious and touching episodes and loaded with never-before-seen extras, there's never been a better time to own Northern Exposure on DVD. Priced at $59.98 SRP.

Quantum Leap (Season 3) selling for $49.98 SRP with a May 10th release date: Fans of the extraordinary time-travel series Quantum Leap have a third chance to bring home their favorite show on DVD. Quantum Leap - Season 3 arrives on May 10, 2005 and delivers even more excitement with 22 unforgettable episodes of Dr. Sam Beckett's (Scott Bakula) extraordinary epoch-hopping personal transformations. Accompanied by his wisecracking holographic guide Al (Dean Stockwell), Sam never knows when, where or who he'll be next. Guest appearances include Tia Carrere, Josie Bissett and Patrick Warburton. Nominated for eight Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Quantum Leap - Season 3 is priced at $49.98 SRP.

Wanted to add something to this thread so here's a show that may interest a few of you. From tvshowsondvd.com:

In early February we pass along info that Reno 911 - The Complete 2nd Season would be along on June 14th, and DVDPlanet confirms it with their new pre-order listing. Cost is $39.95 SRP for a 3-DVD set (the e-tailer is currently taking 30% off, though).

Our sources tell us that this features 16 "uncensored" (well, language is uncensored, but the blurs on the footage remain) episodes. Guest shots from Kenny Rogers and Danny Devito can be found, along with a galaxy of guest stars in the season finale that I won't spoil for you here.

We're told extras will include over 90 minutes of deleted scenes and outtakes, an Aspen Comedy Festival featurette "and much more". Those details are still subject to change, though. Stay tuned for cover art and anything else we find out!

It's been a while since we've used this thread, but I wanted to get the word out on a DVD release for tomorrow.

If you watch the new Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi channel, this past Friday you may have seen an ad for the UK version of the Season 1 DVD coming to Best Buy tomorrow (7/26/05). Wanted to warn you off from buying that. I did some research and all this set will have is the 13 episodes of the series (mini-series is NOT included on this set), a few deleted scenes, and the UK version uses a different theme song (could be that stupid version they use in Season 2).

Anyways, on 9/20/05 the US release will hit DVD shelves with an extra disc, the mini-series pilot and tons of extras for not much more than $10 more than the MSRP of the UK version. So hold onto your dollars for now.
