So Echo I'm just gonna be brutally honest here, but Tasmania has pretty much nothing "other worldly" going for it from those pictures you showed. Aside form the awesome cliffs, half of those look like someplace I've seen in my own life, and I live in North Carolina, U.S.A.

Thanks for that feedback. It is hard to tell when you live in a place if it is "exotic" enough. Cheers.

Eh, one man's "otherworldly" is another man's home and vice versa.

I'm not sure why Star Wars planets need to be "otherworldly" in the first place. I think the point, at least of the OT, is that the planets are very familiar to us. They play on our real world and pop culture associations. Tatooine resembles the desolate, uninhabitable deserts of Africa/the Middle East/the American Southwest and plays with imagery from desert films like Lawrence of Arabia and various Westerns to evoke feelings of desolation and lawlessness. Hoth is equally uninhabitable, like Antarctica. Endor is Northern California for god's sake, and the Ewok culture blatantly resembles Earthly native cultures we're familiar with. It really isn't until ROTS that we get weird, otherworldly planets, and I think the point in that film is to show that the Clone Wars were happening throughout the galaxy. I think whatever planets we see in the ST will probably be closer to the OT: familiar locations with deliberate, specific associations that serve the story.

Here's an incredible natural sight from Lake Minnewanka in Alberta, Canada. It's hard to believe this is actually real. This natural artwork is made by methane bubbles getting trapped under layers of clear ice.

Since I am bored of the GFFA planets resembling northern hemispheric earth, I'd go for those parts of our amazing world that are the least common.

darth ladnar - I honestly haven't the foggiest notion. Sorry about that. I follow a few of those "Unusual Places on Earth" sites and these were just some of the locations that I've tended to find the most incredible. I'll see if I can get more info.

Thanks, but if it turns out to be too much of a hassle certainly don't worry about it.
