"Either way, we're running out of time"

This line from Qui-Gon comes at the end of the scene directly before we are introduced to Coruscant and the Sith. Could it be subtley foreshadowing the Jedis' fall?

OBI-WAN: What if it's true, and the people are dying?
QUI-GON: Either way we're running out of time.
*End of scene*
*Coruscant at night. Booming music, moody introduction to the setting*
DARTH MAUL: Tatooine is sparsely populated. If the trace is correct, I will find them quickly Master.
SIDIOUS: Take care of the Jedi first. You will then have no difficulty in taking the Queen to Naboo to sign the treaty.
DARTH MAUL: At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At least, we will have revenge.
SIDIOUS: You have been well trained my young apprentice. They will be no match for you.

Maul's comment "I will find them quickly" agrees with the literal meaning of Qui-Gon's "We are running out of time."

On a less obvious level-

QGJ: "We are running out of time"
Maul: "At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi"
Foreshadowing Maul killing Qui-Gon?

QGJ: "We are running out of time"
Maul: "At last we will have revenge"
The Jedi are running out of time because of the Sith's growing power.

 

I dunno...doesn't seem like there's much significant meaning to it. Unless of course you consider how close Darth Maul came to intercepting the whole party before they took off for Coruscant.

 

'either way'; soo, QG thinks that they will be discovered on Tatooine?

And just how did Maul find them? That plothole never was explained, was it?

What Qui-Gon thought was bait was really the actual trace. I figued this out on my first viewing.

No plothole.

 

How'd you figure?
I thought they had to respond to it before it could trace them.

We know he chose the time to strike after Qui-Gon destroyed the probe-droid following them (deleted scene).

 

Doesn't seem like anything more than summarizing 6 lines of dialogue to me.

 

Darth Maul: "If the trace was correct, I will find them quickly master."

He picked up the transmission that Sio Bibble sent to the Queen's ship.
This is no plothole.
