I thought it was very sweet how Obi-Wan kept Qui-Gon's tunic...Even though it was too large.

Andrej sat in the small cabin, trying not to appear as anything but the perfect Jedi knight, calm and in complete possession of his emotions. Anyone looking at him would see the calm face, forehead unwrinkled, hands clasped within long sleeves, and legs crossed at the ankles.

Inside, however, was something else altogether. He did not quite know what he felt, considering his mission. The old element was that he was on escort duty again, which in itself was not a bad thing?many Jedi were sent on escort detail, particularly if their charge happened to be someone who could change the very fate of the known galaxy. Or even someone lesser in status than that too, of course. The new element was that this time, he would be journeying with two Jedi he had only heard about?their exploits, their lives, and their missions were carried about as tales within the Temple. Such Jedi, were he thought, the bedrock upon which the order built its victories. The losses these Jedi sustained might be wrenching, but their victories, when they occurred, were often spectacular.

He had taken the time to perform some minor research on both Master Jinn and his padawan, before he had left on this latest mission. His small bag had been ready within minutes, and after he had packed away the yellow vine and seen to his various plants, he had been at leisure. Too much leisure, that had left him in a mild state of apprehension about the forthcoming mission, and he had diverted his attention by looking through the latest missions of the duo who would be accompanying him.

Nearly all had been high profile missions, involving treaty negotiations, mediations and had involved using force at some time or the other. The last mission but one had been particularly interesting, though: it had involved journeying to the planet Scaltia, accepting the invitation of King Bjede Zor, in gratitude for services rendered. The so-called retreat had involved a very public duel, and the felicitation of said King, and then a triumphant home-coming. Both Master Jinn and padawan Kenobi had mentioned very little about this mission, except that it had involved the initiation of certain Force-lessons?a fact that puzzled Andrej a good deal. But it was a mission report that was filed for common perusal. The rest of the details were classified, and could only be viewed upon a Council Member?s approval, and that, Andrej did not possess.

Considering that this was a vacation?he did have to wonder exactly how much relaxation and leisure Master Jinn and padawan Kenobi had derived from it. Still, they appeared to have received enough?the mission to Delukxia had come almost upon its heels, and they had, it seemed, fared well enough.

He had closed their profiles with a vague feeling of embarrassment, after that. It wasn?t that he was intruding into forbidden area?but he felt vaguely queasy. There was also the rather disconcerting thought that master Jinn might have had the same idea, and was probably perusing his own profile, at the moment.

But no. A small red light usually blinked in a corner of the view screen if his profile was being perused, and no such light blinked on his

This is quite lovely. At first I wasn't sure about this ordinary Knight. He seemed rather depressed about his own status and use to the Order. Of course, most Jedi are not Jinn or Kenobi and I would imagine that they might be envious of them if they allowed the emotion to surface. I love the way he watches the pair and then thinks about his future - escorting people, doing not-very-interesting things. Ordinary.

I have to wonder about what happened in the Council chamber that he doesn't want to remember (a few chapters back) and why he's never tried to be special in some way.

I'm so glad you're posting again--I'm in love with both your premise and your delivery. *grins* As I said before, I love your Master/Padawan dynamic. And having Obi-Wan recognize the expression was absolutely perfect. Bittersweet perfection, but perfection nonetheless. Can't wait for more.
