Wasn't the whole big point of this company's brand supposed to be that they didn't just do a bunch of sequels?

The whole thing is utterly tragic. I mean, Finding Nemo was fun and all, but then Pixar was bought by Disney, Stanton got his big break to direct John Carter, and when that failed he was told he'd be doing a Finding Nemo sequel. Demoted. Back to the playground.
It's hard to perceive any genuine artistic motivation in that, and it's sad that a succesful company like Pixar and the people working in it can't do what they want... like they did when they were less succesful.

I'm pretty down about this news, too. We've got a sequel to Monsters, Inc., a sequel to Cars and then that Planes thing, now a sequel to Finding Nemo. I would say Pixar's getting lazy, but it's far more likely that Disney are exerting an unwelcome influence on the decision making process.

Pixar's Golden Age had to come to an end in any case. What Disney really wants is sequel pipelines that never stop flowing. They have three major pipelines now: Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars, not to mention Pirates of the Caribbean 5.

What about The Lone Ranger? Obviously that will be such a huge hit because it has such a bloated budget.

Wasn't One Hundred and One Dalmations the prequel to House of 1,000 Corpses?

And Planes is not a Pixar production. It's being handled by DisneyToon Studios, the "B-Team" of Disney Feature Animation that produced the Disney Afternoon....and all of the direct-to-DVD 'cheapquels' that John Lasseter hated so much....

Technically, The Lone Ranger is a prequel to Seth Rogen's Green Hornet....

Does it count as a prequel if they're just making a Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead rip-off to complement their Hamlet rip-off?

Isn't Pocahontas a prequel/sequel/inter-equal to Dances With Wolves?

Dory is really the only sequel in the next few years being made. They have the Good Dinosaur, Inside Out, the film that takes you inside the mind, the Lee Unkrich Dia De Los Muertos movie.
